Woo hoo! 8) <br /><br />"Upgrade your iPAQ 4100 series internal RAM from 64MB to 128MB with our upgrade service. This memory upgrade does require our proprietary driver and is segmented as 64MB 'conventional' and 64MB as our Hi-Speed T2T Disk. This unit uses BGA memory, so stacking is not available and 128MB will be the maximum capacity."

Eeek, but $130. That is what always gets me is the price. Granted, PPC Techs do an amazing and great service, personally $130 is a lot of money for a 64MB upgrade.

&lt;shrug> It's a hand-crafted hot-rod modification - things like that will always be expensive (just ask anyone who has car mods done).

Jason, (and other Canadians)

Have you had any issues with getting RAM upgrades from PocketPCTechs in terms of shipping the unit to and from the U.S.?

Could someone put the above quote into a "Rookie Geek" version? What would I be getting/locking myself into?

Thanks,

The additional 64MB would look like another storage card, although it would be much faster than SD or a Safe Store -- it's RAM, not flash or ROM. The bit about "stacking" just means they can't do it via a cheaper means that work on some Pocket PCs, and need to replace the RAM chips entirely with larger-capacity ones.

It can't be used for programs, just for storage. Might as well get an e805. You have 128MB of real RAM and 32MB of flash ROM. Oh yeah, and completely open VGA thanks to ResFix and the DeadZone hack. Oh yeah, you get CF too. 8)

Sure it can! It's just like a storage card, which you can install apps on to. It's not a Palm!

The OS cannot use it as true sytem RAM as far as I've read. If you are running PMVP and are using a cache, will the OS use the new 64 MB to run the program and cache if the original 64 MB is already completely full? The 2210 upgrade wouldn't from what I've read and I think the 4000 upgrade is the same. I know you can store programs on it, the question is, can you run them on it.

If the iPaq is hard reset, will the information on the PPC Tech upgrade be lost just like on the system memory?

Yes, you're correct. It functions like a storage card, which means you still need main RAM to run the application.

Yes - it's a RAM-based storage card.

Because the Ipaq H4150 came out at the end of October, and the 128Mb came out at the end of December, Just a quick calculation says you loose 10 Month of your HP warrantee if you install the new memory, just a thought. :D :) :D
