Just wanted to let anyone who didn't already know that there is now a wi-fi service at many of the Cafe Nero coffee shops.
You sign up in the shops themselves. It's not free but costs are reasonable,
£5 for 24 hours
£40 for one month
£150 for one year.
Also there is a link on there website once you sign up to get 1year of service for just $100 (£60 or so).
My experiences so far have been very good, and would recommend this to UK wifi users.
Also i believe that they have some roaming agreements so this may even allow you to use it abroad for wifi.
Has anyone else tried this, and is this actually a good deal. Anyone found a cheaper service plan?

I havent used WiFi yet, but I know that T-Mobile (UK) are currennly running a trial on StarBucks coffee houses and the plans are to put them in all of them ofer the next year or two - and lets face it there are thousands of those!

Oh - and some Petrol Stations are also being tialed - but no news yet.

I have no details of the charges - but Im guessing it will probably be verry similar to the competition

I will keep you posted and let oyu know of any more details as and when they are operational.

The Caffee Neros are online with Surf & Sip, and allows you to use any of their access points, but I'm not sure of many (apart from an EasyInternetCafe and Internet Exchange cafes) others in London, although they do have a reasonably sized US network.

Have you got the link for that offer for only $100 for the year?

You can find out T-Mobile's hotspots here http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatcher?menuid=phones_wb - I don't think there are any free offers.

More interestingly, ReadytoSurf offering free trial until the 31st December 2003 - just email them. The locations can be found at http://www.readytosurf.com/locations.php

If you look at http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3762&highlight=hotspots+uk, you will find a number of other sites (I have not been maintaining it for some time partly because I am about to move permanently to Spain [I have just returned after three months there]).

Try the Benugo sandwich shops: you get free access with your purchase (or at least you used to). They also have Bluetooth access to the Internet!

The link appears when you are a subcribed user and you log in. I will check tomorrow (Friday) when i'm next at a hot spot.
From memory it expires 31st December 2003.
Hope this helps.
