View Full Version : Should I refurb iPAQ 3600 or just buy new iPAQ 1935

I've got an old iPAQ 3600 that I use for e-mail and calendar function, reading eBooks, games, etc., but it is starting to show its age. :( The stylus won't stay put (of course), the screen has dirt behind it, the battery doesn't stay charged as long, etc.

I was kinda planning on having it refurbed, adding a longer-life battery and bumping it up to 64mb Ram. The total for all that is right at $170, plus the cost of shipping and insurance to get the thing to them for repair. Might as well say $200, then?

Amazon has a new 1935 for less than that (after rebate, with shipping included); the only problem/added expense I can think of would be switching from CF to SD for storage. What am I missing here? Any advice or opinions on what I should do?

I'd sell your old iPAQ 3600 on eBay or something (after saving your data) and then use that money to invest in a new iPAQ 2210 for $400 or a Dell Axim X5 for $250-$300. These have both CF and SD.

I agree with dmacburry2003 get rid of the old and bring in the new. While the 3600 seems to have served you well it is definitely not worth the cost of saving it. You can sell it and add a few more bucks to it and get a brand new PPC that is up-to-date with the latest processor and WM2003 OS. Now is the best time to look for deals with X-mas coming. Happy hunting. :D

Jaie, I was in a similar situation, but I can't sell my 3660 at all. =( 3 ads locally, and it's in nicer condition than yours too, just worn out battery, but it just won't go!

Check here (http://www.ipaqrepair.com/ipaqpartscenter.html#36xx) for a do-it-yourself refurb kit. If you want to keep the 3600 around, this is the way to go :)

There are a few available depending on how much you want, but includes a new battery and new stylus locks plus better tape to seal the screen.

I've got a 1935 and I'm very happy with it. Between a refurbed 3600 and a new 1935 - it's a no brainer! I've also got a perfectly good 3970 (from work) and I prefer the 1935 hands down. MUCH smaller and it seems faster too.

Out with the old - in with the new. Would you pay to repaint an old car if you could get a brand new one for the same price???

I have 3660 refurb (Circuit city "upgraded" me) and a 3635 hand-me-down. Even though 3635 screen is more worn then I would prefere, free is free. The 3660 is currently what I am typing this message on . I just got a wi-fi for it. I replaced batteries in both devices myself, which was a big saving. I have expectation of both of them lasting another couple of years. The biggest problem was the batteries, but now, when I can do it myself....The 3660 is heavily used at work and at home. The 3635 is a backup, "just in case".
Here is why I am not switching: $$$. I want a device that takes CF cards. I invested money in to CF cards and the wi-fi card is CF, so....

I like the idea of selling the 3600 and putting the money towards a nice, fancy, new model. Besides eBay, any recommendations on where I might be able to sell it and what I could expect to get for it? :Fade-color

I believe that Toshiba has one, so I assume that HP would as well. Don't know how much you'd get, but it may be worth a shot.
