Canada? What is this Canada you speak of? In your case I could make an exception, but I generally shy away from international sales. Although, technically Canada isn't international.

Not to nitpick or anything, but "international" means something relating to or involving two more more nations, or something that transcends national borders. Soooo "technically" Canada is international, assuming you live in the US. ;)

Yep. Americans from Minnesota and Wisconsin particlarly have similar vernacular and colloquial expressions. You can hardly tell them apart from Canadians! :)

Because Canadians use proper Anglican English spelling rather than American English. For example, the word COLOR is spelled COLOUR in Canadian English. And as Jason pointed out, it was meant as humor.

Yes, but that's where the satire comes from...our different spelling patterns.

In the interest of international relations, I have to say that I have always wanted to visit Canada. I hear that they have excellent snow and something called a "beer store". I've also heard tales of milk coming in bags (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17635&start=0), but I don't believe them.

It's that whole Tory thing. During the American Revolution, many people who were still loyal to the British Crown fled to Canada (it wasn't called Canada in those days). And did you know that only a MINORITY of Americans wanted to separate from England. Less than one third was the official estimate, I believe.

I'm now planning on visiting the Great White North once a year... I need to go in order to pick up Canadian pop (or soda if you're from a soda region) because it has sugar in it instead of the corn syrup they use in the States. Plus, up until recently, I coud only get Aero bars up there (or Europe, but that's farther). But a store by us that specializes in imported stuff (http://www.costplus.com/home.html) just started carrying the milk chocolate and mint varieties (though not the newer white chocolate kind).

Plus, I have a couple of good friends in Vancouver at UBC. ;)

Yes, Mr. Fighter is the bastard who won't ship to Canada, as was established in the first three threads of this post. I don't think that his Zire 71 is capable of shipping anything.

I was in Texas last weekend and had a chance to taste Dr. Pepper made with sugar instead of corn syrup. (I was in the town where their headquarters is)

I couldn't tell the difference.

That said, around Passover time in the spring, you can find soda made with sugar instead of corn syrup, so that us silly Jews can drink it :) I'm not sure about all sodas but at least Coke is available that way, they have different colored caps to differentiate them.

Yeah - Skokie, IL was reputed to have sugar coke at Passover in the stores there (it's a very Jewish area). I kept meaning to go check, but never had time.

The difference that I notice is that sugar coke isn't nearly as *sticky* as corn syrup coke. And that the aftertaste is more pleasant. My husband is the real connoisseur. He says he can clearly taste the difference.

I think we best put this American vs. Canadian topic to bed - before we inadvertantly start a war or something. We all know Bush is just looking for an excuse to invade another country now that Iraq is done with (choke!)

If my public schooling serves me right ( :rotfl: ), the US tried to invade Canada several times back when it was called "New France". Please correct me if I'm wrong - I'm woefully ignorant when it comes to Canadian history.

You are correct. Fact is that 'Canada' sucessfully repelled those attempts.

I guess you could say that, in thoses instances, the USA got their butts kicked by little old Canada!

8O

Yes - I know. Pretty scary. How times have changed. These days the Canadian Military's total head count is significantly less than the US military troops contained in Fort Hood alone - forget about all of the other US Miltary bases.

Now thats REALLY SCARY!!!

Kati --> if you're going to make a trip just to get your hands on some sugar filled Coke (which I love, by the way) I would suggest posting a request for any Canuck travelling south to bring a case with them. ;)

And since we're talking about Canadian life (shipping off our seniors, living in igloos, milk in bags, areo chocolate bars, etc...), I would suggest anyone that wants to learn more about Canada should rent the following movies:

- Bowling for Columbine
- Canadian Bacon
- Strange Brew

I think the last 2 movies are standard issue in Canada.

Strange Brew is probably my favorite movie ever. I was mystified and bedazzled as a teenager by strange new words like "hoser" and "toque", and by phrases like "Take off!" and "Beauty, eh?"

Oh darn, now I'll have to watch the movie again.

By the way, did anyone notice that Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis reprised their roles as Bob and Doug in the recent "Brother Bear" cartoon? They were moose.

Naaah ... Canadian will not attack US. If they do, US will send a nuke to Calgary, and this board will not be as fun anymore. ha ha ha.

There are more people working in a single McDonald's drive-thru restaurant than there are people in the whole world looking for near-earth asteroids.

I dont see the need to do that ... Supposed they spotted an E.L.E. asteroid, we dont have the mean to stop the asteroids anyway. Afterall, the previous big asteroid that hit earth killed the dinosaurs, hence created a place for the human, the next big asteroid will kill all of us, hence created a place for a far more advanced race .... My economics professor will say that the asteroid actually created value.
