Since advertising on this site is being discussed a lot, I wondered if there is any advertising that you actually like.

One of the things I noticed when I move to the US from the UK is the the advertising here is terrible. Not only is there way too much but the adverts seem to treat people as though they are stupid.

I remember that some of the TV advertising in the UK was pretty good, better than the programming sometimes. One of my favorites was the Fosters one where Paul Hogan comes across a puzzled looking Japanese tourist scanning the London Underground map. "Excuse me" says the tourist "can you tell me the best way to Cockfosters?" Hogan's response was the classic "Serve it warm, Mate!"

Actually some of the beer commercials here are not too bad. I kind of like the Real Men of Genius ones.

Anyone else have any favorites?

By the way, anyone wanting to find the way to Cockfosters can do so here: http://www.afn.org/~alplatt/tubemap.gif
Cockfosters is the most Northern station on the Piccadilly Line - the blue one.

Some TV ads aren't that bad. It seems that the frequency of them appearing on TV is inversely proportionate to their quality. The best quality commercials are shown once, the worst are shown eighty-bazillion times. Perhaps advertisers know a funny commercial will stick with viewers, but for gods sake, if I have to see some of those horrible ones one more time I'm going to take out my aggressions on my television with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch.

Rant aside, My favorite all-time commercial is the John West Salmon commercial that is floating around the net. (http://www.pocketmovies.net/detail_91.html) Always great for a laugh.
