Hi guys,

I want to be able to chat with another ipaq using bluetooth. Is there anything that works?

I have tried "Proximity Mail" but that one works more like a bluetooth mail inbox than a chat program.

There's this. I've not tried it, because I don't know anybody else with a Pocket PC (let alone a BT-capable one).

It requires that the other person have the same program.

Why don't you try Microsoft Portrait: http://research.microsoft.com/~jiangli/portrait/

It supports connections over IP, which you can do with BT or WiFi. You can do text chat, audio conferencing or video conferencing.

I have used it from a PPC to a desktop machine over BT, worked great.

well I tried MS Portrait.

Very cool actually. This should have been built in to msn messenger. You can send and receive files and chat. I tried it with my ipaq 1945 connected to my PC using only the sync cable and worked. i just entered my PC`s IP and got connected.

The only problem is that I cant get any sound from my ipaq`s mic played over at my PC speakers. My PC at work does not have a mic, so I cant test it the other way around.

What could I be doing worng?

thankls

Are you using the push to talk mode and then holding down the "Talk" icon while you speak? It worked fine for me on my iPAQ 2215.

I've got the exact same setup (USB cable) and connected to my own computer. I can connect the two together but I can't get either sound nor video to be transferred. I tried push to talk and click to talk to no avail. I have a USB webcam for my computer only but I can't see it on my Pocket PC. Anyone have any ideas?

Well I think I know what it is...

It might have to do with the ports being used, There are different ports for audio and video and maybe they rae not supported or are being used/blocked by activesinc.

I am going to give Portrait another try connecting my 1945 to my cousins ipaq using bluetooth. Lets see if it works then.
