I've just seen a refurbished e740 64/64 w/ Wifi, for $188. It looks bigger than the ipaq 1940, but I have big pockets. What say y'all? This will be my first PPC (I've used palm devices in the past)

That is not a bad price. IF you are getting it from ebay make certain you read, because some of them from ebay do not include the wifi.
Does it come with a warranty. I think it would be a good choice for a pda.
I have a toshiba

Didn't the 740 have a lot of issues and bugs though? If you can find a 750 for cheap you might be happier.

I was strongly considering the e740 when I got my Axim X5. Overall, I wouldn't get it.

THE GOOD:
-Not too thick, nice directional pad and buttons
-Removable battery
-CompactFlash type II and SD slots
-802.11b wireless with good range

THE BAD AND THE UGLY:
-Battery release switch can easily be flipped, so the battery falls out and you lose all data. A piece of scotch tape fixes this, but...
-The display units that I've seen at Office Depot seem to lose screen brightness quickly. This might just be because they're on all day, though.
-Voice recorder button can easily be bumped, which turns on the screen and starts recording. This can be turned off, but it's still annoying.

If you need integrated wireless, get the Dell Axim X3i or the Toshiba e755. Otherwise, I suggest you consider the HP 2215 and Axim X5 (advanced).

What kind of Palm did you have before? Was it the right size? What are you going to use your PPC for on a daily basis?

I think there is issues wiht every pda. If you doesnt get the e740, then maybe you can get something close to it like the axim x5.

When you make your decision, the forum will be here to help you out

hay jim
overall its a top notch unit but there are some concerns :?

1 you must load the patches from toshiba not a big deal

2 yes if you let the batt run down or take it out form more than
30 sec you will lose (everthing) no backup batt+if its on and the batt
comes out the loss will be instant!

3 the vioce record button is verry touchy it will come on in your
pocket; you can download a prog to remap the button to
turn it off if you push it,instead of rec

as for the screen brightness have had no probs yet on mine
but as soon as i sell mine im going for the e800

yes its a verry nice ppc 2 card slots and wi-fi.If thats exactly
what your looking for if not move on (it might be best)
