Just got 256 MB SD card (using it in IPAQ 2215 if this matters).

In Settings/Memory/SD Card it shows:
"Total storage card memory: 243.88 MB"

Is that to be expected ? Seems to be WAY off from the 256 MB

Both my 256 MB cards say 240.98 availble (using Resco Explorer 2003)

There are a couple of things in play here

1 - definition of a MB. Some say 1000 bytes is a kilobyte and 1000 kilobytes is a megabyte. Others use 1024 instead of the 1000.

2 - With SD, some of the capacity is supposedly used for something or other to do with the secure part of the "secure digital".

No-one ever gets the full 256 MB on a 256 MB SD card.

Does anyone know if the same occurs with MMC cards?

yup..unfortunately that's how they do it.

i think there's like a class action lawsuit going on about this right now, if u want to get in on that. if not, just gotta deal with it.

I dont think a class action lawsuit is going to get you anywhere, especially if its mounted upon human error. It happens to all of us, and there will always be indescretions between many things, for example, whether or not there is a "u" in honour or neighbour.

FYI - here's the link to a front-page post we had on that class-action lawsuit:

PS - Drop the "u" discussion (which was from a thread that got out of control, for those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about).

It's like hard disks...

you buy a 120GB one, and what do you get...like 111GB or something.
A 30GB disk - 27.9GB available.

It seems the bigger it is, the more u lose out.

I can't wait for 10GB cards to come out and all you get will be like 5 or something.
