Trying to implement 802.1x with Cisco 1200 Access Points and Cisco ACS server. Trying several devices with several network adapters. The device is supposed to associate with an AP, a user name and password is entered and then authenticated. Once authenticated an IP number is provided.

Devices seem to work for a while and then stop working. Deleting the wireless profile and re-creating it seems to fix the problem sometimes. Most recent problem had a Dell Axim broadcasting its SSID as "Dell" rather than the SSID it was configured for. We have seen these problems on HP 2200 series, Dell Axim and HP 4150.

It appears to be an OS bug where the device loses its marbles and has to be fixed through a soft reset, creation of new wireless profile or both. Have tried cards from Dell, DLink, Socket, and built-in card from HP.

Seems to work for 4, 5 or 6 times and then just stops working. Very frustrating to say the least.

Does anyone have this type of configuration working?

Well we think we have found a bug in the PPC OS. Anyone that might be involved in an enterprise deployment of wireless with 802.1x security it seems the PPC operating system will at times broadcast the wrong SSID. There is a work around.

I have spoken with someone else who has also seen the same problems. Given the inherent weakness with wireless security, doesn't seem like too many enterprises are deploying the 802.1x PEAP security standard yet.....
