Well Sunday I purchased the e405 from Circuit City. I took it back to the Hotel and plugged it in. In 45 minutes it was finished though I decided to leave it pulgged in overnight.
Monday I used the device with medium backlight for 5 minutes around 9:00AM. I looked at the device again at 12:00PM and it was down to 84%!
Played Media Player with medium sound from 12:00 until 12:20. I checked the battery level again at 5:00 PM, 53%!!!!!
NOT ACCEPTABLE!
I recharged and did a hard reset and tried again Tuesday, almost the exact same results. Yep...It went bak Tuesday afternoon.
I hope this isn't a view of what the e800 is going to be like, especially considering that WIFI will suck up a bunch of juice!

You must have had a defective unit.
When I read your post I thought I would try the same thing on my e405.
I fully charged the battery and loaded a music clip into main memory.
It's been playing a 128kbs WindowsMedia music file for over 40 minutes with the backlight set at the halfway mark and the volume at about 3/4 on the built in speaker.
The battery meter shows 94% remaining.
Did you have a SD card in the PDA ?
SanDisk SD cards will KILL your battery life.

No,
No SD cards. Very strange!

Did you get a replacement unit, or did you just get a refund?

Have you tried going to another store such as best buy or comp usa? I say that because like he said it sounds like a bad unit, but maybe that store has recieved a bad batch. It may sound far fetched but just to be on the safe side so you dont have a bad experience.

TEST #2:
New unit, different store, different city!
Plugged unit in at 7:51 pm, at 8:20 pm states that it is fully charged as did the previous unit. Loaded the same default mediaplayer video at 1 notch below 1/2 way on the backlight. Volume at 1/2, set for repeat and after 20 minutes the battery is down to 61%.
Folks, that is PATHETIC!
Neither unit actually charged to 100%. Both only go as high as 99%.
Think I need to go for the iPaq!

Sometimes the directions say to charge for 4 hours even if it says it's done. Perhaps that is part of the problem? People debate whether or not it's truly necessary.

Well the first unit charged overnight. However, the first unit went 'green' after 45 minutes.

Ah - I misread your post. Sorry. Perhaps the 2nd unit was a return because the previous person didn't charge it right? It would be a strange coincidence, though.

No, it was a sealed unit. I did however recharge the battery. When the light turned green I left the unit plugged in and did a hard reset, It charged for another 20 minutes before going back to green. Now the power meter is at 100%.
Hmmmm....looks like the battery meters are lost when new.
