I bought a Toshiba e405 today and ran a few benchmark tests.
Overall it compares well with existing 400MHz Xscale devices....

I plan to post a more detailed review later, but here are a few Pros/Cons so far...
PRO:
- great color screen (better than the iPaq 1945)
- feels smaller than it is (rounded corners and sloped design)
- durable metal case (not painted plastic)
- telescoping stylus (no more toothpicks)
- jog/scroll wheel
- cool case color
- SDIO Now! compatible (about time too)

CONS:
- software, what sofiware ?
- NO CASE :bad-words:
- sync cable does not charge PPC

WOW, impressive... would it be possible to give a bit more information on this new model?
How about a snapshot of this PDA? :D

I played with the e405 at Best Buy - man, that thing is THIN. Feels razor thin - very nice.

In which sense do you consider the screen to be better than that in the 1945? Is it brighter, has it better color saturation, more contrast, or has no tint in the background?

Graphics performance is impressive by the numbers.

Does it FEEL fast in the end? Faster than iPAQs?

It is a shame good devices are so far away from here. Be cell phones or PocketPCs, we do not have selection and prices are high.

What I mean when I said I think the screen is better than the 1945 is that there is no yellow tint, which kills cleartype on ebooks, and the colors seem more 'pure'.
Reds appears vivid as well as greens. Again this could be because the things that should be white are white.
ClearType in eBooks, either with MS Reader or PalmReader, are smoother along the diagonals.
This is a bit subjective and the yellow tint of the 1945 varries from unit to unit so YMMV but I am very pleased with this display.

As to the speed of the device.
It depends on the function if the e405 feels faster than an iPaq 2215.
For example, changing the font in an eBook with PalmReader is noticably slower on the e405 vs the iPaq 2215.
Howerver watching a video, listening to MP3s and such the e405 seems as fast as the 2215.
One area where, so far, it outruns all other PDAs I can try it against is opening and switching apps.
If you press one of the buttons on the front of the device there is no delay between that press and the app appearing.

Well someone needs to retest the Dell because the newer 400mhz with the PXA255's are running alot faster:
Spb Benchmark Index 1076.44
CPU Index 1864.27
Platform Index 965.63

I also would like to have had another 300MHz system to compare it with.
As it stands however, the e405 with its 300MHz processor can compete well with the 400MHz ones on nearly every aspect.
I can only guess how well the e805 will do with its new series processor.
