<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=33028' target='_blank'>http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/f...pic.php?p=33028</a><br /><br /></div>Robert, from our sister site <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com">Smartphone Thoughts</a>, wrote in to let us know that AT&amp;T is <a href="http://www.attwireless.com/specials/mpx200.jhtml">finally listing</a> the Motorola MPx200 Smartphone for sale, along with their GSM service.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20031021-MotorolaSmartphone.jpg" /><br /><br />Even more interesting is the fact that Amazon is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000DIXEV/robertlevynet-20?creative=125581&camp=2321&link_code=as1">listing it with heavy discounts</a> -- you can pick one up for $150 with rebates with activation. Not a bad deal, and I'd consider this a great complement to a Pocket PC, or perhaps a way to enable your family to get Outlook-syncable phones. (You wouldn't give your Pocket PC up now, would you?) There's also a <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2003/oct03/10-21Smartphone.asp">Microsoft press release</a> about the debut.

they are available at best buy. I was playing with one yesterday, it was for AT&T. I didnt like how thick it was nor the style or color, but I think it is way past time that such a phone was available in the U.S.!! :!:
I know some other smart phones I would love to see with Cingular :rock on dude!:

i think i would switch to a smartphone/pocketpc phone if i could get my hands on that LG SC8000 being released in the Korean market. But nothing can really replace being able to post this and take notes for comp sci class on my 5455. Back to taking notes :|

After owning a 3650, I don't think I'll ever get another phone without a camera. When I first bought it, I wanted bluetooth and didn't care about the camera. Since owning it, the camera gets a lot more use than the BT. :)

Man just combine pocketpcthoughts and smarthphone thoughs :D Fliping between an additonal site is a pain. With new devices like XDA II who's to say it's a smartphone or a pocketpc?

Is a smart phone basically a PDA that's not as flexible as a PDA, but has phone capabilities. why would you want/need both.
Thanks

It's a Pocket PC Phone. Smartphone Thoughts focuses on Smartphone 2002 and 2003 devices, while we focus on Pocket PCs. Believe it or not, there's very little overlap. ;)

The Verizon stores have already received brochures for the i600. Give it a few weeks for the units to actually be there. :D

Nice phone, expensive service. Can't believe ATT is still charging by the K and then it is $40/mo if you want a 20M data plan on top of the voice plan. T-Mobile is doing voice and unlimited data for less than that. I have ATT now because I need to have coverage and their's is undeniably the best (read most) as far as voice goes. But if I get a data capable phone, it sure won't be with ATT.

How big is a packet? 1K? I've done 7,000 packets in and 5K out, just checking my mail here in the hotel room and checking this site and responding to this thread, and I haven't hit send on this yet. If 1K is right that's 7M in, or a third of my $40 already, assumming I don't have to add in and out.

If you got a phone with full web capability, you are going to want to do more than check text e-mail, and not pay an arm and a leg for it.

Sven,
I think your math is way off if you are just checking email and posting 1 thread. Are you using GPRSMonitor? If not, you should get a copy. You can track your usage and spending easily. I think your 7000 "packets" are 7k bytes down and 5k upload which are quite reasonable for the online tasks you just mentioned.

If it had Bluetooth, I would buy it. Hopefully the SPV e200 will be similiarly priced.

smart phone is first a phone with some added bonuses and are smaller. the closest exception to this is the samsung i500
pda phone is first a pda and the added benefits of being a phone. The name tells of its primary function. this is how it all started in theory

Look like an ok phone but the lack of bt and a camera...come on moto. What I really want in a phone is something like the new phone from Sendo (X or something...)

Am I correct in assuming that if it is SDIO, then a Bluetooth SD card would work for my headset and laptop?

attws has great coverage but terrible CS. My story is too long and painful but 10 months later I am still dealing with billing errors they have made when I "upgraded" to GSM. They never do what they say they are going to do and sometimes are downright rude. I have since switched to T-mobile (even though my plan with ATT is not up b/c I couldn;t get service in my apt with ATT) and love it. Courteous, competent, and the voice plans arebetter. ATT offers 350+200 add'l anytime minutes for one year for $39.99. After which time you get bumped down to 350 minutes forcing you to get another plan. T-mobile is 600 anytime and the coverage is only worse if you live in the sticks. In fact, here in the city its better. their coverage seems to make it into bldgs my attws did not. I would wait for amazon to offer a sweet deal on this phone or T-mobile personally.

Not necessarily; in fact, it's unlikely you can reroute the voice over SDIO... but I don't want to say this is absolutely impossible unless I hear a confirmation to that fact.

I'm trying to deal with AT&T directly. They're useless. Their web site keeps hanging - their retail store empoyees are oblivious - and their phone support people don't know when the phone will be available. :?

I'm a little uncomfortable about going through Amazon.com for phone service. Guess if I want this puppy badly enough, I'll have to just risk it.

Nothing against Amazon here - I've had only positive experiences with their service. I just tend to favor more direct transactions with service providers.

Come to think of it - with the luck I'm having with AT&T, I should rethink my policy...

No, this device does not support SDIO. It does have a camera accessory coming out however :-)

Wasn't even using a phone. Just at a hotel with a broadband internet and grabbng the packet numbers of the IP connection status. Was pretty easy to associate what I had done with the number of packets the connection status listed. It says packets BTW, which are not bytes, though packet sizes do vary.

Would be interested in knowing what folks with GPRS/GSM connections rack up each month, given 'normal' use. Not sure any one who hangs out here is 'normal' though ;). Probably fairly indicative of what I might do though :)

Turns out a co-worker had bought this phone from CompUSA earlier this week. Looks very nice, I was surprised. Nice speakerphone, flush/internal antenna...

I think he said it was $199 with $100 mail-in rebate, a free Jabra BT200 w/ the adapter (the $180 package), and some other free accessories like 16MB SD card, etc...
