View Full Version : i-Mate or wait?

Ok, I need some opinions on this one.

I use a t-mobile pocket PC here in the US, and love it. I really want the MDA-II but t-mobile isn't being too forthcoming on when it will be available anywhere. With the availability of the i-mate, my question becomes, do I grab an i-mate or do I wait for t-mobile?

So far, I've come up with a few pros & cons:

Pro: Get the thing nearly NOW
Con: If I stay with T-mobile, the phone I'm using will be hard to explain if I ever need service or have programming issues.

Pro: Get a unique phone for the U.S. (How many others will have i-mates?)
Con: Get a unique phone for the U.S. (Getting 'aftermarkets', i.e. chargers, accessories).

Would love to hear your opinons!

Thanks,
Jon.

i-Mate or wait? What a debate!
Should you be early - or risk being late!?
If a lust for new tech you must satiate -
Or make a decison you'll soon grow to hate...
My sage advice? - (free at no rate!)
Reviews will be coming - the goods to relate.
Hold fire for now - you don't *always* stand to lose...
For a brief hesitate...!

i-Mait or wait? Surely others can relate
I've never bought early - do I risk a sad fate?
For in this reason this post I create.
Early Reviews to date highly rate
But the price of this date is steep I state.

Thanks for starting a lyrical trend here. I'm figuring that I"m only going to buy an i-Mate if I can find enough junk around my office to sell to atleast only take a $100 or so hit to the technology-geek fund. I tell ya though, I've been waiting for this thing since they announced it, and the more i think about it, the more I'd love to tell people that the nearest store they could get one would be around the world (Even if T-Mo releases their version, mine still looks slightly different (i.e. the word i-Mate)).

Looking forward to others attempts at advice and/or poetry.

You want us to postulate?
Personally, I would certainly wait
At least for more reviews of the i-Mate
Just to see if it's worth its weight
Before I jump out of the gate
And spend my pieces of eight.
Otherwise, it's a sort of blind date.
Anyway, the T-Mobile might be your soul mate.
So the i-Mate might make you irate
But this is a silly debate.
(What's the exchange rate?)

My guess is that your hit will be > $100.... probably liked ~$300 if you sign up for 1 year service with T-mobile since the price they have for Pocket PC Phone version 1 is $400 right now. Besides if it does come out around X-mas there might be better deals since it's after the 11/24 number portablilty date.

...sorry I can't rhyme if my life depended on it...

Apparantly, some folks just can't wait to the tune of $1525.00 US !!!!

Yea, I've been watching that one. I find it quite amazing how high it is given (as others have pointed out) it lacks original pictures and has the exact same text as ppcw.net. I just hope someone doesn't get burned.

There is still a slight difference in looks between the T-Mobile and the i-Mate:
T-mobile (http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/3997,2.html)
i-Mate (http://217.160.215.102/shop/imatepe.php)

The T-Mobile is slightly more curvy and IMO looks uglier. The buttons also look more difficult to use, especially the D-Pad...

So I decided to take the plunge and purchase an MDA II from T-Mobile on its Germany online site. The funny thing is I don't speak (or read) german at all. I went through the entire purchase process (credit card and everything), and apparently the order went through. I got the following message back, which I was hoping someone with good german skills out there could help me with. I don't need the full translation, but I just want to know whether my MDA II is on its way here to Miami. Am I just dreaming?

Thanks much in advance.

Fernando

I wonder why you choose to buy your MDA II from Germany when it is going to be available in the UK tommorow :!: . UK is where the English language originated and I think your best bet is to cancel your order from Germany and re-order it from England and your language difficulty will end.
I am also getting mine from England in the next few days. Best of luck.

I guess if one were to buy the German version and swap the ROM on it for the i-mate or O2 rom, then the language problems would be gone.

Orinoco,
I have a German friend who may be interested in the German version of MDA II. What is the web-site where you put your order for MDA II?
Thanks.
Kay.

You can order the German version from www.t-mobile.de, and go to:

http://www.t-mobile.de/shop/handys/1,4269,2961-_---,00.html

You can also order the english (I-Mate) version from:

http://www.compume.com/Search/Catalog/default.asp?pid=HaXDA99HY2002-00

Best of luck,

Dear mr. Fernando,
Have you received your MDA II from Germany? It seems my order from the UK is becoming problematic. If you have received yours, I may order mine from Germany too.
Regards.
Kay.
