I am really looking forward to this MP3 player as a cheaper alt to the ipod. I would love to be able to connect the player to the axim to use as a HD. Would it even be possible for Dell to develop a driver and cable to make this possible? On the surface, does not seem that difficult, and would give them an accessory option that no one else has.

I always suggest the Archos (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=148445&highlight=archos#148445) as a cheap alternative to the ipod.
As for hooking one of these to the Axim, this will require some sort of hardware solution because both are slave devices. Something similar to Toshibas USB accessory (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/pc/pc_prodDetail.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0411845306.1065037252@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccjadcjhmmfidmcgfkceghdgngdgll.0&comm=ST&plin=PDAs&pfam=PDA%20Accessories&poid=209772&Adoid=493443)would be required (or something else with USB on-the-go (http://www.usb.org/developers/onthego) technology).

I wish they would start putting in USB OTG chips in PDA's. (http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/2853.html)

I'm hoping the DJ will beat the Archos on price and have the design/built quality/size of the ipod. I am really looking for under $200 also.

So it would have to be a CF connection to a cable that goes to the DJ rather than just a connection between the two synch ports?

The Dell Axim can't act as a USB host without special hardware. I guess you could use the CF slot to do the job with one of these devices (http://www.ratocsystems.com/english/products/subpages/cfu1u.html) (provided there are drivers for it), but the Toshiba USB cable (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/pc/pc_prodDetail.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0411845306.1065037252@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccjadcjhmmfidmcgfkceghdgngdgll.0&comm=ST&plin=PDAs&pfam=PDA%20Accessories&poid=242764&Adoid=493442) is able to operate between the 2 sync ports by having this hardware in the ends of the cable. So if Dell is able to come up with something like that cable, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Ive seen that CF card usb adapter before, but it is way too expensive. But yes you get the idea of what I would love to be able to do. If they had a 15 GB mp3 player for under $200 and a PDA for under $300 and you could connect them with an inexpensive cable solution, there would be loads of possible uses for around $500 package cost that no one else would offer.
