I want to convert my home wired network to a wireless network. I want to get the Linksys WRT54G wireless router which is a 802.11g although it's suppose to work with 802.11b equipment also as it has both standards. Will my HP 5555 which of course is 802.11b connect ok with this wireless router?

I cant speak for the Linksys but i connect to a Buffalo 11g AP with no problems either with the original firmware or the latest standard compliant version

thanks dochall.

I currently have a wired home network consisting of 4 desktop PC's and 1 laptop. I do not use a router, just a older Linksys 8 port hub and use Windows XP Internet Connection Sharing to get them all online. Works pretty darn good. I have an ADSL broadband connection.

I have 3 desktops in my bedroom, 1 desktop in a detached garage (about 50 ft away) with the Cat5 cable running out of the house and into the garage and a laptop in the other bedroom.

What I want to do is set up WiFi for my HP5555, the laptop, and the garage desktop. I've pretty much decided that I would go with 802.11b rather than 11g since it seems the 5555 doesn't yet work with the so called backward compatability of 11g and there is no time set for HP to come out with a fix.

Before I buy the hardware I wanted to run it by you all. Right now I'm thinking about the:
1. Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless-B Broadband Router. Reason being that it is for both wired and wireless computers. I don't need the 3 bedroom PC's wireless.

Another thought was to go with the:
2. Wired Linksys BEFSR41 EtherFast® Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch and the 11b Linksys WAP11 Instant Wireless Network Access Point and when 11g is finally worked out for my HP5555 replace the 11b AP with a 11g AP.

What do you think about what I want to do? My main concern is compatability with the 5555. Sorry such a long read but I wanted to give you all the info I could.

Sounds like it should work.

any access point or wireless router should work. Not sure about the b or g though. I have the Linksys 4 Port Wireless Router "BEFW11S4" connecting my 3 computers and my ppc. Good luck.

Same setup that I have now. After 2 days everything is working fine. I did get the WSB24 Wireless System Booster also because of my detached garage.

If it's only 50 ft from the house, range should not be such a problem that you'd need a range booster. 100ft, maybe, but 50 ft should be no problem unless your house has solid concrete walls.
