A friend of mine got a nokia 8850. Just curious, is there an application for PPC that lets you compose ringtones, and upload it to 8850 via infrared ? Or better yet, an application that can convert midi or wav into nokia's ringtone standard (what is the standard that nokia is using, anyway ? RTTTL ? uniring ?) and upload it via infrared ?

Danke.

I used to have a program called MonkeyTone (http://www.primatesystems.com/monkey_tone_ppc.html) by Primate Systems (http://www.primatesystems.com/home.html) installed on my PDA when I had a Nokia 8290. It worked pretty well, and almost everyone I knew kept asking me to send them ringtones.

However, if I recall correctly, it didn't send the tone directly to the phone via IR, but instead it used the IR port to have the phone send a message to itself (or another phone number) and when that message was received you had the new ring tone. That may have been a model specific thing, but I preferred it because I could send ringtones to Nokia phones that didn't have IR ports. For some reason I couldn't seem to get it to work if they were on a different carrier than I was.

Try SmartGSM v2.2.4 or Mobem mPhone 2.6. I'm using them quite often. They work pretty good. You can upload or download logos and ringtones directly. With SmartGSM, you can compose ringtones or open a midi/rtx/txt file then upload it.
