Hi all,

I have unlimited WAP access (flatrate, and this is also available for UK at the moment, France, Germany and many eastern european countries) and  I was just wondering if there couldn't be a WAP version of Pocket PC Thoughts?

Who would want it too :?:

I don't know if there is one here, but www.pdaavenue.com has what is apparently a quite nice one. ;)

Can we do something like that? Or have we both missed something?

I'd like that! Wap is lighter than HTML so, as i'm charged by the KB it would be nice to have a version like this. The only problem I find is that Wap pages can't be much long.

We have no plans to create a WAP version of the site, but we do have plans to lighten our mobile site by making most of the bigger graphics optional, so it will be faster and use up less KB.

Why don't you address all static images as local (people would install them on the PDA instead of delivering them from cache). That way we would save on KB.

Asking people to install an image pack on their device in order to visit the site is not a realistic solution. Besides, any of those images should be cached, and should only be downloaded once.

7 cents? Ouch! I pay 1c per Kb on weekdays and 0,24c on weekends. I can have allday 0,24c if i subscribe a mothly fee of $5, or I can have 20MB flat fee of $24.

20MB for $5!!!! And here I thought £17.99 ($27) was good for 5MB included! (thats Vodaphone btw)

Which country (and mobile network) are you on again? And how much does your mobile voice package cost?

Thx

in france with orange: 15EUR voice phone, +6EUR WAP/GPRS unlimited, option to 6EUR for GPRS for all Internet, 5MB limit (dropped from 10 :( )

Germany: 8EUR base price, +5EUR unlimited WAP/GPRS, don't know kByte prices though.

It's moving. Russia: 3USD for unlimited WAP/GPRS

Surur, my network is Vodafone, too. But it's not $5 for 20MB, its 24. $5 is for you to have anyday $0,0024 per Kb.

As for voice packages, here in Portugal the more popular package is a rechargeable one. We go into an ATM and charge the phone with an amount at will (BTW, Portugal is the only country in the world with an Universal ATM network - ATMs work everywhere and are all the same. We can buy train, coach and show tickets on it, pay our taxes and our bills, etc... It's wonderful).

We then have a per minute and per network fee. I pay $0,24 per minute for all the networks, including wired phones. Oh and I have 100 free SMS messages each week.
