how can i turn off the wifi function for a centrino laptop?

perferable with a password to turn it on and off again!

I would expect that to be a function of the laptop. My Motion (Gateway)Tablet has a config menu that lets me turn WiFi on and off, though there is no password associated that I have noticed. I might be able to do it with profiles that do or don't have access to that control panel.

If nothing else, you can disable the device in Network Connections or Device Manager. I don't have a Intel WiFi-enabled laptop here, so I can't check, but as Sven mentioned, most drivers have a way to turn off the radio.

As for password-controlling it, just don't give some of the users Administrative privileges.
