<a href="https://www.toshiba.tradeups.com/">https://www.toshiba.tradeups.com/</a><br /><br />Toshiba was mentioned in a <a href="http://news.com.com/2110-1041-5065577.html">CNet News article</a> earlier this week. "Toshiba announced on Tuesday that it is launching a program that will allow owners of its mobile computers and technology products from other manufacturers to trade in those products to purchase new Toshiba technology."<br /><br />I went to the site but you have to register to get any information on what is eligible for the tradeup and how much you'd get. So, any of you with a Toshiba Pocket PC with the 2002 OS that would like to trade up to the new 2003 devices, this may help lessen some of the sting. Post back what the offers are. I am wondering if this is going to be better than a trip through eBay or not.

No it doesn't. They will only give me $64 for it. It's not worth it. Anyways I'm not too mad about it, I am really happy with my PPC. I don't think I'll upgrade until the e750 is two generations old. Maybe sooner if the technology incresses at a faster rate then it is now.

Anybody know what other vendors are offering?

Yeah, nothing!

But come on, $64 for an e740? Thats a joke, you are better off at ebay or any of the sell forums here or Brighthhand, etc.

I agree with you 100% and Toshiba probably would too. Just because they offer it doesn't mean they expect anyone to use it. They probably wouldn't know what to do with them anyway. And no one HAS to trade in with them.

$64?!?!? What a joke. If anyone is thinking on taking that offer (yeah, right) let me know. I'll give you $75 for it.

I see value in this if you are a medium/large sized company. With larger companies it's not valuable tracking bids, visiting forums like these, or trying to negotiate multiple variable shipments. If you have 50 of e740's to sell that's $3200 of minimal time and effort.

For us, selling the device for an extra $150 on eBay is well worth any extra effort required.

This is the same crappy program TS has had for months now: $64.00 for a E740, $0 for a Genio. The CNet article is new, but the news is old. Guess CNet lowered the salaries of its "news" editors: they're recycling old news, too.

This is response I got yesterday from Toshiba Australia when I asked if 2003 was going to be released for the e740. Two points to note firstly they refer to a competitor withdrawing the upgrade and secondly make mention of 'chargeable tradein program for those very advanced users'. Curious language to use

Its all too much, I've gone out a bought myself a HP 5550. Now who will buy my e740.

"As far as PPC2003 is concerned Toshiba has made a decision not to release this OS on the e740. Please refer to our response below:

Toshiba was first to market with a WiFi capable pocket PC in the e740 which runs Microsoft Pocket PC 2002. The e740 performs all of the functions it was sold as performing with this version of the operating system. Unlike Microsoft Windows which can be upgraded quite simply, a Pocket PC operating system is tightly integrated with hardware and requires considerable engineering resource to implement and test. This is evidenced by at least one of our competitors already withdrawing their upgrade due to technical issues. The e740 is not compatible with Pocket PC 2003 and Toshiba will not be offering an upgrade. Toshiba has since released the e750 which does run Microsoft Pocket PC 2003. We are currently working on a chargeable trade in program for those very advanced users who have a strong need for a specific capability of the new operating system. We hope to be able to offer this by early September. "
