I have a CD with a song I really like, and am looking for a CD with songs of a similar style (preferably instrumental). Normally, this wouldn't be too rough, as I could see "other people that bought this CD also bought...", but this particular song's style is different than the rest of the CD.

The song is "Marco Polo", track #4 off of Book of Secrets, by Loreena McKennitt (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000002NHN/qid=1061322560/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_2/002-2923560-7164003?v=glance&s=music&n=507846). Her "normal" music is Celtic, but if you listen to a clip, you'll notice that this song isn't quite that. ;)

For those of you who were in Vancouver for the fireworks competition recently, it was played during the Czech display. I'm so cool I already had the CD, though. ;)

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW - "Mummer's Dance", track #2 on that CD is also pretty cool.

That sounds really nice - I love the arabic flavor. Off the top of my head, I can only think of one similar piece -

Mohammed (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004TA8K/qid=1061333133/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/103-9649476-4288605), by the Dandy Warhols. Duke Ellington did a few in this vein as well. I have more, but they're on my computer at home and I don't remember the titles.

Ooooh. Hmm, good call. But that's only one track. On a very good album though. ;) But none of the other tracks sound remotely like it. On the other hand, the variety is what makes Thirteen Tales great.

Okay, anyone know of any good Arabic instrumental music? ;)

I'll check out Mohammed later...

Have you checked out Sarah Brightman's _Harem_? I bought it, and I'm still listening...not sure it will ever become a favourite, but it has a middle eastern-style cover of What a Wonderful World, one of my favourite songs. The whole album is middle eastern inspired.

You know, the more I listen to that piece, the more I think it's Indian rather than Middle Eastern. I think I hear tabla and a sitar in there somewhere.

There are a few compilation albums out there that are good:

Mystic India (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004VTFK/qid=1061358223/br=1-4/ref=br_lf_m_4//103-8179557-0344634?v=glance&s=music&n=63835) is one - James Asher is particularly good, I think.

Ha! I was thinking just the opposite. I guess I'll have to listen to it a couple more times. ;)

I hope this is not too O/T, but I prefer not to open a new thread on this. Be kind, will you Kati? :)

In high school, I like this song very much. The lyrics is about sailing over seven seas. I forgot about the artist, the title, and the lyrics of the song, but I found myself humming that song quite often.

Anyone know that song ? It is not the seven seas song by queen or babyface....

Is it "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000002VI0/qid=1061479200/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/103-9649476-4288605)" by the Eurythmics? It might help to know an approximate year range for when you were in high school as well. That'd sort of narrow it down a bit.

Nice suggestions - and I may get some of them. But I still haven't heard anything *quite* like the song I mentioned...

Actually, while I'm asking anyway - I'm also looking for music like the themes to the Monkey Island games. Those are so good... :)

Here's a sample of one if you don't know what I'm talking about:

Tonnes and tonnes of such sites out there.

One song I listen to a lot on a friend's tape is "tumse kitna pyar hai" (may also be spelled "pyaar") from the film "Company". Very haunting and romantic lyrics.

It seems to have a similar sound as Marco Polo, but it's not instrumental.

I'd like to purchase this on a CD, but didn't find it on any US sites.

However, if you Google you can find 'samples' of it to see if you like the particular sound.

Almost. But not the one. It was a female singer. The part of the lyric that I can still remember is ... sail over seven sea, to find to your heart .. or something like that .. geez, high school was a sweet experience.

Ha ha. Lets say ... it is quite some years ago :p

I'll bet this (http://www.lyricsmansion.com/result.php?number=7087) is what you're thinking of... "Sail Over Seven Seas" by Gina T.

I searched the net using altavista, found nothing. I think it is time to change search engine....

I searched for "to find to your heart" in Google and the first page listed was the one with lyrics of the song. :)

:google: rocks!
