I'm looking at signing up with Verizon wireless service. Staying as in-expensive as possible, does anyone here know which phones they have that are compatible with my ipaq5455 for occasional net access?

any phone that says that it's compatible with the Express Network, and which you can find a PDA/Phone cable for, like the ones from gomadic.

I had an LG VX10, which there is a cable for (although i never used it with my ipaq). It's a solid phone, if not very feature-rich.

Right now I have an LG vx6000, which I love to death... but they're still working on getting cables out for it.

I'm in the same boat with my e335. This is the first time I've heard of pda/phone cables...I was just under the impression before that you had to use bluetooth. I'd appreciate if anyone that knows could shed some more light on the whole deal...interesting stuff.

Several different companies make PDA/cell cables. I'd recommend Gomadic (http://www.gomadic.com) because they'll supply you with new cables if you ever change your PDA or cell phone. The Supply Net (http://www.thesupplynet.com) makes cables that can also power both devices - a great feature, but it'll cost ya another $20 or so.

Hope this helps...

I use my LG vx4400 with a cable from The Supply Net.

Verizon is a good choice: excellent nationwide coverage, no roaming $$ in much of U.S.; your choice of free low-speed (free on nights & weekends) or $$ high-speed Express Network ; customer reps in stores and on the phone that have at least some familiarity with data (and a dedicated data department over the phone, though the dedicated data department is available only 16 -- not 24 -- hours daily). My phone is several months old -- new models out now. Spend some time playing with different models in a Verizon store (feature package, ease of entering data into phone's address book, ease of using features -- some phones are very "logical" to use, others require more steps to do anything and aren't a pleasure to use). You'll also find the sound quality varies from excellent to horrible. I can't find the link, but Cnet (or somebody) had a site listing cell phone RF emissions. You're holding a little microwave oven to your head, so pick a phone with low emissions (the wired earpiece/mic actually channels RF to your head -- use a bluetooth headset or select a phone with speakerphone capabilities).
