Are you in the market for a new hat? Tired of your earbuds falling out? Ready for another great SCOTTeVEST product? Well then, look no further. Check out my review of SCOTTeVEST's "The Greatest Baseball Cap Ever!"..<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/remhof-aug03-hat-0.jpg" /> <br /><br /><!><br /><i>SCOTTeVEST's "The Greatest Baseball Cap Ever!" is a great choice if you're looking for a stylish, technology-enabled hat. It's lightweight, has some nifty hidden pockets, and is very comfortable.</i><br /><br /><span><b>So, it's a Hat, Right?</b></span><br />"The Greatest Baseball Cap Ever" is, for all intents and purposes, a hat. It comes in stone washed gray and stone washed blue. The mesh lining fabric is made of DuPont CoolMax, which wicks sweat away from your head and keeps you cool. It really works too. The back closure is a clip that you can adjust to fit your head. The hat is designed to accommodate a ponytail (my wife assures me that it does). It also features eyelets near the top for ventilation. <br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/remhof-aug03-hat-2.jpg" /> <br /><i>Figure 1: The back of the hat. It features an easy to connect clasp.</i><br /><br />The hat sports a SCOTTeVEST logo on the front, and a tagline on the back. The logos look good but I doubt that anyone will recognize them from a distance. They are small enough that they blend in with the hat. The hat looks great, but the color is a bit hard to capture on film. The model I got is the stone washed gray version. It's a darkish gray which changes in the light.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/remhof-aug03-hat-5.jpg" /> <br /><i>Figure 2: A shot of the hat in action. (No big head jokes, please).</i><br /><br /><span><b>What about the Technology?</b></span><br />As with all SCOTTeVEST products, this hat is truly a 21st century product. If you use earbud headphones while exercising, they'll stay in place with the built-in, patent-pending, earbud loops. All you have to do is put your earbud wires through the loop and around your ears. The hat keeps them from falling if they come out of your ears. <br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/remhof-aug03-hat-1.jpg" /> <br /><i>Figure 2: A closeup of the earbud loops. The hat will keep them in place during exercise.</i><br /><br />When I first put on the hat, the loops stuck out and they looked a little dorky. I quickly learned to tuck them in when putting the hat on. But when using them with earbuds, they work great. They definitely hold them in when you need them.<br /><br /><span><b>Secret Compartments</b></span><br />The other features that make this such a nice hat are the secret compartments. There is one on the side and one under the brim of the hat. The side pocket is big enough to hold a key or business card. But, since the inside of the pocket is the lining of the hat, I would not suggest using it for something that is bulky or not sweat-resistant. The side pocket has a zipper to open and close it. The pull on the zipper hangs out a bit and looks a little silly to me, but no one else seems to notice it.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/remhof-aug03-hat-4.jpg" /> <br /><i>Figure 3: The side compartment.</i><br /><br />I feel like a little kid again with the pockets. It's like those combo flashlight, radio, compass, safe, clock things I lusted after when I was 12. The more secret compartments and gadgets the better. Now those are the sorts of things I look for in gadgets. Hmmm... I'm starting to see a trend.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/remhof-aug03-hat-3.jpg" /> <br /><i>Figure 4: The under-the-brim compartment.</i><br /><br />The side compartment is nice but what I really like is the brim compartment. It adds a little bulk to the brim but is very useful. It closes with Velcro so there's no pull to be concerned with. I've been using it to hold the "business cards" that are included with the hat. They are intended for you to hand out to people asking about your hat (nice touch).<br /><br /><span><b>Gotchas</span></b><br /><li>The zipper pull on the side compartment hangs down a bit too far.<br /><li>I'm not sure if I have a big head, but... the hat feels a bit small to me. But that's a personal preference.<span><b>Where To Buy</b></span><br />"The Greatest Baseball Cap Ever!" is available for purchase from <a href="http://www.SCOTTeVEST.com/">SCOTTeVEST</a> for $19.95.<br /><br /><span><b>Conclusions</b></span><br />SCOTTeVEST's "The Greatest Baseball Cap Ever!" is another nice product from SCOTTeVEST that lets you use technology without looking like a geek.

You know it's a slow PocketPC news day when PPCT is talking about hats and Brighthand has rehashed their display technology article on the front page (again).

(actually, the hat is kinda neat, but I'm forbidden from wearing them by my fiancee, probably for the best)

Hmm, I like the idea but wish I didn't have to wear their Logo on my head. I'd prefer a choice of plain, or of something else -- sports or travel related. Why should I have to wear an advertisement for them, when I've already paid for the product?

I posted to their live help 4 hours ago and they still have not replied. I do remember seeing this on their website a month or so ago. They had pictures and stuff, it was just not for sale yet. Now Gone!

Thanks so much for the post! Sorry for late response. Today was our corporate outing. I wanted to thank everyone for all the hard work. We should have posted something on the site. Sorry. We left the office at 12:30 CST to go sailing and watch the rehersal for the Air Show here in Chicago.

I will try to answer some of your questions.

First off, the product is expected the week of August 25th, but we expect to pre-sell them beginning on Monday, when we launch our new and improved website, which is going to be very cool. In fact, please feel free to visit over the weekend as we expect to be testing it. We will be introducting a new line of clothes too, and a great game. I can't say much more, but I think you will really like it.

If you want to pre-order one, you can do so by visiting this "secret" link: http://www.scottevest.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=sev&Product_Code=TEC-Hat. Admittedly, no information is shown there, but the review is accurate, and there will be more information later this weekend.

As for logos, we can offer you one without the SeV logo in front. Just indicate that in the comments. The logo is really subtle and looks great, however. It is not uncommon for clothing companies to sell things with their logo, e.g. Nike.

I really appreciate the word of mouth and will try to answer any of your questions posted here, or if you prefer to email me directly send to [email protected].

Thanks again. Did I leave any questions unanswered?

Scott, thanks for posting. What about the logo on the back - can it be left off? It bothers me more than the one on the front. Any chance of PPCT discount code?

PS - The secret link does not work.

Actually, the TEC logo on the back is on all of the hats. It actually looks much better than in the pics. The embroidery was not right on the pre-production samples that were reviewed.

As for the coupon code, we are trying to price things right out of the box, and thus not have to use coupon codes from the outset. I hope you understand.

Thanks

Will this hat come in different sizes. The one shown seems pretty small.

One size fits all like with most baseball caps. I have a big head too, with big ears to boot, but it looks fine on me.

If you don't like it, you can always return it.

Scott,

Went through to order, but it seems the system still want to charge me the $7 that vest shipping costs. Is it also going to cost $7 to ship a hat?

Thanks

We have not set everything up yet. If you put "SCOTT SAYS TO CHARGE ME ONLY $5 TO SHIP JUST A HAT" in th comments, we will only charge you $5.

Sorry for all the hassles. We are trying to get all the bugs worked out with the new site.

Watch him order two. ;)

(Who knows? Maybe he has two heads! But two torsos is just too weird.)

Doesn't Brad have two eVests?

Fortunately, I've met the man, and I can assure you that he only has one head. I even looked for the birdcage (http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node=Zaphod%20Beeblebrox)...

I believe he does. He wouldn't want a cap that only went with one of them, would he? ;)

You website is really great. When are you coming out with more colors for the women?

scott911

Unfortunately, the women's version never did well at all, despite all the emails we received telling us that we needed one. So, we are just doing unisex models for now.

Did you email me asking for your hat to not have the SeV in front? We may have shipped you the logo hat instead. Please email me to correct our mistake. Thanks.

Nope, I figured since I could not take the one off the back, I would go ahead and leave the one on the front. Just trusting as you said that the one on the back looks better in the production version.
