Similar to the impact of the SUV on the automobile market. The Victorinox model will incorporate a Large blade, Scissors, Compass, Can opener with small screwdriver, Hook, Corkscrew, Toothpick and Tweezers. The company claims that the addition of these tools doesn't effect the standard 2215 specifications."<br /><br />This is great! I can now leave my inch-thick Swiss Army Knife at home when I go outdoors.

Hey, who changed my calendar?! :D

That's too funny. :rofl:

If it was real, just imagine how those dummies at the airport security would react.

Would have been a really good April 1st post Ed, you should have saved it.

You think this whole thing is a joke?!? I'm telling you, they forgot the
darned stylus!! I should know, I have one of these things (it was a
"thank-you" gift, from Obi-wan Kenobi, after I kicked Anakin's butt
for being such a whiner)

At first I thought this HAD to be a joke, but it's not April yet.

Then I remembered how many times I had to go back to HP to get my iPaq serviced... You need those tools to fix it yourself! What a brilliant idea! What great forward planning... :wink:

To be completely honest I think its stupid to have all that on the handheld.. They should work on putting integrated wireless Network Parts and stuff... Thats a waste... Just go and buy a knife...

That is pretty funny. It would be hilarious to make a portable device that now includes the feature of not being portable. Be happy with your small device that isn't allowed on any planes. I would like to see some odd features but not this kind of thing. how about a built in really good IR and great universal remote. Garage door opening... wireless car door unlock and such... things like that could maybe make sense. but still not really.

That is seriously an awesome idea...a garage door opener...

I seriously don't think you guys need to take it out of THAT much context, because this type of device would mostly be used for one of those guys who like to do the gardening and fix the kids' bikes, etc.

I'm sure whoever buys this also has a backup, normal PPC that they would be able to take around the world if needed.

We need to stop complaining and encourage more innovation. Because, innovation is what really drives the market and the world.

Victorinox, the makers of the famous Swiss Army Knife, has entered into a marketing agreement with HP to make small modifications to the iPAQ 2215 and resell it under the Victorinox label.

Downside is that the stylus is now one of the typical Swiss Army Knife toothpicks. :lol:

I have an even better idea: Manufacture a regular Swiss Army knife, but with bluetooth connectivity! That way, all those attachments could be used with any PDA with bluetooth.

I would like to be the 10th person to comment on how you couldn't get it onto a plane. I would also like to say to the author of this posting, Ed, that Victorinox doesn't make Swiss Army knives ... the two companies simply merged. Just like the Times newspaper doesn't make Discovery Channel programs. :?
But, as for the Victorinox iPAQ, I'm gettin' one. But that's only if nobody comes out with a Thermos PDA.

Now, if they would just add a dual purpose laser pointer. Would be great in the conference room, when doing presentations, and when doing weekend projects, like building a deck you could use it as a laser level. Then, add in laser measurement so you just point the laser and have the distance to the object you're pointing at pop up on the screen. (while your at it, could use it as a depth finder and fish locater for those weekend fishing getaways.) 8) 0X

What's the power consumption when using all of those accessories?

At least after the batteries are dead in the wilderness, you could use the dead display as a signalling mirror while the search planes are looking for the "techie gone camping".

Corkscrew needs to be mounted halfway down the side, so you can use the iPaq as a handle, but this is a minor quibble.

Thanks for raising a small :D

If they really want to make it an effective outdoor tool, they should do the following.

* Seal the case housings.
* Use sealed buttons
* Include rubber stoppers for all the I/O ports
* Include a cover

In short, make it waterproof. This will make it a very nice outdoor tool.

This Swiss Army PDA thing has to be a joke. That or some people are smoking some really good weed.

OK... i'm not quite sure if this is a joke or what... but this really sounds stupid... first of all the ipaq case is platic... the knife holder will brake while tring to cut butter!!! andyou'll be squishing your ipaq like crazy trying to pull a cork... and imagine opening a beer that has been shaked with that... poor ipaq... and poor you for being too stupid to try that... :devilboy:

but... i really liked the idea of the compas... i hope someone really makes one of those as an add-on... :wink:
