H5450 WM2K3 Upgrade OUT!!!

Had to tell everyone, the wm2k3 upgrade is out, well its available. Dunno about HP but i got it off IRC this morning(usual places email me to find out as i wont post here) and no doubt will hit the newsgroups this afternoon! I tried it this morning and it works great - its final not beta and has uninstaller to go back to 2002, but why would u want to do that???

I don't know if anyone has received their copy from HP yet. Someone might have if they ordered it the first day it was possible.

I ordered mine a couple of weeks ago, anf HP quoted 8/4 for the ship date....

Yeah i'm eligable for the free upgrade too, only bought few weeks ago but lack patience. old ppc was 3970 which i got the upgrade for last week!(through newsgroups!) I'm all for getting the licence i'm entitled to, but cant wait for the HP beurocracy to sort their act out. BTW wm2003 is VERY good on 5450

So you are going to go back and purchase your copy for your 3970, right? Also, how do you know this is the final build and not an intermediate build? Do you know what build HP will be shipping when they do?

yes i'm going to purchase for the 3970, even though i gave it to my girlfriend! The installer was complete for the 5450, and it works, so when i get the final build i can check out version numbers etc, but for now i'm happy. The 3970 i know is late beta, but again works so i cant complain.(i didnt pay for it!) To all those wanting download links really you should check it out yourselves, a quick search on deja.com might help, but check [link removed by moderator KC 24-Jul-03] tomorrow if you still need help as i'll put instructions up tonight.

Did anyone get it to work? I got tired of waiting for my cd to arrive so I tried it. Kpet getting file open error

The Upgrade Utility can not open the requested file. Please check your Upgrade Utility.

did you rename the file as it tells you in the readme?
rename KERNEL_PPC03_PVT4_2_00_21.nbf to KERNEL_PPC03_2_00_21.nbf.

I did, and tried both names. It is very strange.

tried reextracting / downloading? mine worked first time. file has shown up in certain binary newsgroups if u need easy download. First impressions are ok, doesnt give huge speed increase i was expecting after experience with 3970 and from what websites reported. Still is stable and everything works, and has nevo still so thats one up on the 5550 owners!

OK not sure why. But the secret was moving the setup folder to mydocs and it wokred. Now I get to play!

Okay, I don't mean to be a goody-two-shoes here, but you guys do realize this is illegal, right? Okay, just checking. Not to mention (no offense) more than a little stupid. You're downloading ROM updates from unknown sources and installing them on your nearly $700 Pocket PCs? :idontthinkso:
