Just curious... why aren't OS upgrades, such as Windows Mobile 2003, available as a download from the OEM's? :?:

Well it's certainly not available as a free download because the OEMs need to charge money to be able to not lose money in providing the update.

The upgrade may not be available for download for money because of the ability to pirate the upgrade more easily.

Plus the OEM gets to charge exorbidantly for shipping and handling via mail...

Each OEM needs to customize the OS for their pocket pc - to include hardware drives, extra tools built into the OS, etc... Its not like WinXP which can run on anything - each WinCE is 'optimized' for the hardware it is running on.

For example, why have a fingerprint password option on the 2215?
