Okay, here's the deal. My old Ipaq 3635 just stopped syncing recently and, thankfully, I have the extended warranty from Staples and they offered to replace it with a 1910. I accepted since I didn't really have any choice, but my 256MB Compact flash card won't work in it, so I'm going to have to spend at least $50 on a SD card if I keep the 1910.
My question is this: Would I notice enough of a difference between the 1910 and the 2210 to warrant the extra money I would have to spend? I would like to be able to play games (mainly emulators) since I couldn't on my 3635 (the button issue). Do you think I would be able to sell the 1910 unopened? and for how much? If I can get at least $200 for the 1910, then I can order the 2210 for $293 (yes, I am a student) and only have to spend <$100. Thanks for any help, I just found this site while researching and it is proving very useful.

To be honest, except for the nicer screen, small form factor, and perhaps improved battery life the 36xx device could be argued a better device. The 36xx will support Windows Mobile 2003 while the 1910 will not. I would consider the 194x an equal trade.

Go with the 2215 for at least these reasons:
-you don't hafta get a new memory card
-the speed is a lot better - people have reported playing SNES games smoothly with sound and all... a lot better than the 1910 will do.

I have owned both the 1910 and the 2215.

My thoughts on the 1910:
The 1910 has a beautiful screen. Bright vibrant colors, great contrast. It is a pleasure to look at. The 2215 screen looks washed out in comparison. Though the 2215 screen is nice compared to other pocket PCs, it cant compare to the 1910. The 1910 also has a smaller form factor. It fits in your pocket easily. You dont even know that it is there. Thats good if you like to carry it around in your pocket, thats bad if you forget it is in your pocket and accidently sit on it. The 1910 has a 200Mhz X-Scale processor which is slow compared to the other retail models. You can use an overclocking utility (i used clearspeed) and the 1910 will run at a very usable speed. The 1910 comes with a sync cable and charging cable. You can plug the charging cable into the sync cable and sync and acharge at the same time. No cradle included. I liked this as I dislike having to carry around a cradle for syncing. I liked the sync cable, others may not.

The two biggest drawback to the 1910 are :
1. it only has 46MB of ram accessible to the user and 16MB of Flash ROM. I ended up using the SD card for many of my applications beacause the 46MB can fill up quickly. You only have 16MB flash ROM so you have a very scaled down OS. iPAQ backup is not included so you need to purchase a backup utility (unless you use active sync backup). Several other utlilities that are included on other devices are not present on the 1910. I liked the scaled down OS as amany if those "extras" are things I never use. The 1910 runs PPC2002 and an upgade for 2003 will not be offered by HP. It is too bad HP ended this life of this model so quickly.

2. The SD slot is not SDIO, so you would not be able to use any upcoming SDIO devices (such as an SDIO WiFi card). To me having SDIO was not a big deal, I was happy with just SD. I didnt see myself using any SDIO devices. I would have to remove my SD card to use them. Removing my SD card meant I would be removing many of my applications which were installed on the SD card. I was very happy with the 1910 and almost wish I hadnt sold it to purchase the 2215. I do miss that litte iiPAQ. I had returned my original 1910 to CompUSA because of a problem with the screen sensitivity (wouldnt always recognize the input for my stylus). I had a new in box iPAQ 1910 that I sold on ebay for $225. If you are looking to sell it, I would try to sell it before the 1945 comes out. If the 1945 with its Samsung processor gets rave reviews, then I would assume the demand and hence, the prices for the 1910 would go down. I think the 1845 arer slated to be released July 15th (??).

Onto the 2215.
The 2215 is slightly larger than the 1910. It fits easily in your pocket but you know that it is there. It has some weight to it in comparison to the 1910. As noted above, the screen is nice but not nearly as nice as the 1910. The 2215 is fast. It has a 400mhz X-Scale processor and it runs circles around the 1910. The 2215 has both an SDIO slot and a compact flash slot. I really like the CF slot for use with my SMC CF WiFi card and I use the SD slot for storage. The 2215 has 56MB RAM accessible to the user and 32MB Flash ROM. The 2215 runs the full version of PPC 2003. It comes with some neat extras built into the ROM such as Nevo remote and some useless ones such as iTask. The 2215 is the latest and greatest. I stayed with the 2215 over the 1910 for this reason. It is the model HP will be supporting in the future (hopefully, I thought the same thing about the 1910). All new software will be written for PPC2003. I looked at it as taking a step forward instead of a step backward. Since I sold the 1910 for $225, I only had to pay $175 more for the 2215. To me at this point, I could afford it and it was worth the money. HTH.

I agree with all assessments here. If you have a choice between the 1910 and the 2215, take the 2215. You should be able to get at least $200 for the 1910, unopened. You may also be able to return it for store credit and then just purchase the 2215 outright.

The 2200 has a better processor, more RAM, support for both memory card types, and the new OS. The 1910 has too many limitations. With what you've described as your intended use, the 1910 would offer nothing but frustration.

Kind Regards,

HP is offering an upgrade for the 36xx? I thought they weren't.

My mistake... I was seeing 39xx when I was reading 36xx.

What I would be more interested in, and havent seen any good comparisons, is the 1940 v 2210.

Is the 2210 much faster than the 2210?
Is the 1940 screen as good as the 1910? My wife has a 1910 and the screen is brillian. I have just sold my 3970 and will move to either the 1940 or 2210.

Anybody used both?

Is there really going to be a snap on screen protector for the 2210?

Thanks

Andre

I'm not sure about the speed, they both are quite fast. As for the display, I'd suggest going to a store that has both and compare them side by side. I've done that. The 2210/15's screen seems a little washed out, compared to the 1940. They both are pretty damn good screens though. I think the 1940 would have an edge b/c it seems to have a crisper image. However, it had a yellow-ish tint to it, viewing it right next to a 2210/15. ::shrug:: Its really hard to describe - and I can see how somebody may prefer one over the other. Just that, one is not "better" than the other, its not a clear cut thing.. - its a personal decision...hehe.

EDIT: I *would* like to see a comparision (1940/45 vs. 2210/15), as I am trying to make the same decision.
