ok
so i was playing around with the bootloader
i had put
one of those small versions of linux on the ipaq before
and it worked fine
then i put the original 3875 rom back on from a backup i made
and that was fine too

i only did it to see if i could
i was young
and stupid
lol
and i had a good job then

i learnt abit more about customising the linux distro for the ipaq
and i put itback on
however
it died

when i tried to put
pocketpc2002 back on
it wouldnt

like
its totaly dead
now, all i get is - if i connect the powercable, and press 2 buttons on the surface, i get a red screen ad the compaq logo on it

so how do i fix this?!
i mean

what doi have to do?!
when i connect via hyperterminal, i get the compaq diagnostic mode thingi
like

the commands that i see on the websites dont seem to work
maybe a lower level language is required

i cant remember the commands right now
but i can upload an image
but the image doesnt seem to stay
or i dont see any progress at all

what doi do?!
at the moment
its a paper weight, and i despreatly need it to work!

hp said they'll fix it for 180 quid
if i double that, i can get the 5410 at 10% discount..
but i dont want to spend 400..

so

people
can anyone help?

A NonGroovy(TM) answer:

The 36xx series bootloader had a way of restoring a ROM off of a CF card that was generated using the bootloader on another identical unit. In other words, if you have a friend with the same device, you might be able to image the ROM to CF, and get it into this one, using bootloader commands. However, I don't have any guarantees that this is supported on the 3875 (and maybe it uses SD instead?).

Note that (at least on the 36xx units) the bootloader ROM's CF format is not a FAT-based filesystem that you can just load from the HP website -- it must be generated from another device, or maybe there's a special tool out there that can generate it.

Good luck.
