That would surprise me since the Stowaway keyboards work with it.

i have a compact-flash gps receiver. i inserted it
and was able to access on COM1....on previous
ipaqs it was either COM2 or COM4

that's because you're accessing it via CF... I have a TomTom GPS reciever that connects to my iPAQs via their cradle connectors. That GPS unit uses serial. If the new iPAQs don't use or have a serial port, then its going to be impossible to use the hardware with any of the new models...

Doesn't mean I won't try though...

Kind Regards,

Snowlion,

what makes you say that there is no serial port on the 2215? I am just curious because I think the 194X's do not have it. I really hope that the 2215 is serial enabled.

I don't think that's correct - my 2215 works with my Stowaway XT keyboard. The 1900 series will likely not have serial support, and thus, not work with any wired keyboards (IR keyboards only).

the reason i don't think the 2215 does not have a serial-port is because when i run a program that opens gps CF connection on the 36xx - i never can open on COM1 - because that's reserved for the serial port at the bottom of the pda.

on the 2215 - i can open a connection to the CF gps receiver on COM1.

-
it could be the keyboard works because of usb...not sure

also jason, i set my ie6 security to normal and it still doesn't remember passwords.

Could someone with a serial GPS receiver confirm whether it works with the iPaq 22xx series?

Also could someone with one of the new iPaq 19xx series devices also confirm whether there is a working serial port.

Thanks

The keyboard can't work with USB because the PPC will need to have an USB host for this, and the 2215 doesn't have an USB host. If the keyboard works, then it has a serial port.

I have some custom software that opens and configures COM1 for serial communications. It works fine on the 2215 (though I don't have an iPAQ to DB9/25 cable to actually communicate with).

By comparison, my Toshiba e740 could not open the port because it did not have a serial COM port.

It's possible, since you don't have anything connected to the port on the bottom of the 2210, that the operating system is assigning com1 to your CF card. Com port assignments not only dictate what address range the port is listening to, but also the iterupt request (IRQ) assignment. Most devices these days can dynamicly assign both the address range and IRQ -so what you are seeign is probably normal. If you had a serial device like a keyboard plugged into the port on the bottom of your 2210 it would probably show up as beeing on Com2...

The 1900 series Ipaqs do not have a serial interface, the 2200 series do have them. The 194X Ipaqs can act as a USB host or device. I don't know about the 2210s USB capability.

22xx HAS serial. I've used a serial GPS mouse and Pocket Streets and it WORKS.

1910 has NO serial and GPS, KBs etc. will NOT work.

194x's are the same but DO have BT which open up at least GPS BT devices.
