View Full Version : Should I 'upgrade' my 5450 to a 2210?

The only things I see my 5450 has that the 2200 doesnt is built-in wifi and the finger print scanner. I never use the finger scanner, and I wouldnt mind using a wifi cf card when I wanted to go online.

Now there are a lot of benefits of the 2200 over the 5450. Its faster, smaller, dual expansion (not anymore if i wanted to go online though). Is the screen smaller?

Another bad thing is it can't use the sleeves. The only sleeve I have is the cf sleeve which I wouldnt need anymore anyway.

Input is appreciated!

I think I would regard 2210 as... a different theory.

there are goods and bads about 5450 I think:
5450 pros
1. Integrated WiFi - (provided that HP please come up with better upgrade on driver on PPC2003 release)
2. Jacket- well, I dont see very much use about it except a car mounted GPS
3. Fingerprint- I am using it, but definitely not a huge +ve feature, especially when the driver is still buggy and cause memory leak and occassionally didnt come up on the screen.
4. Battery life- well I dont know hows the actual compare, while I think actually 900ma versus 1250ma is quite a big difference... althought the new CPU does save more battery, but I wonder how much can be saved now (we know its 60% compare to PXA250 on 2210 (PXA255) but what is that 60% when being put with the full unit? I am not quite sure about it)
5. relatively good accessory base due to the compatibility with 39xx series

2210 Pros
1. I would say CF + SD is much better in terms of porting your investment... Jacket is too specific for iPAQ
2. Smaller and lighter
3. you got PPC2003 right now

I would say, I dont have a big will to change to 2210, but if I am buying a new one right now, I would pick 2210 due to its better value.

I was figuring it does everything i need it too (minus wifi which i can get a cf wifi card), is smaller, newer, newer os, faster and more power efficient. Plus, i coulf probably sell my 5455 ($650) + Piel Frama case ($60) + CF ($30?) Sleeve + belkin stylus ($10) + WriteSHIELDs ($30) + PockeTop Wireless Keyboard ($90) for a good sum, and actually make money on the downgrade (ipaq 2210 for $287... PA educational program discount).

By the way, I just added that up and its $870 worth of stuff :| How much do you think i could sell this stuff for?

You probably wouldn't get that much skitals, keep in mind everyone else that is looking for a pda also has the option of buying a new 2210, so there might not be a whole lot of demand for a 5455 :bawl:

I just sold my 3970 for US$340. A collegue just purchased a $5450 for $425. I dont think the extras add any where near their value to the price. View them as a "value add" rather than a way to bump up the price. I included my screen protectors, 128 Mb SD Card with USB reader, Stowaway keyboard, extra cover pack, leather case and standard accessories.

If you use the WiFi alot, dont upgrade. The key reasons for upgrading from a 5450 in my opinion is:
- Speed/performance
- Compact Flash expansion
- size
If the compact flash expansion will be used alot for wifi cards and not much else - scratch that one out as it is not really a benefit.

Of course, the other thing is, you probably will get a little change back after your purchase.... I have ordered a 2210 and will pocket about US$10 in change - of course I dont have a keyboard anymore  The difference between a 5450 and a 2210 will be more profound 0X

Wouldn't it be defeating the purpose of having built-in Wifi if you purchase the 2210 which doesn't have it; then have to go buy a Wifi card that works with Pocket PC 2003. The 2210/15 is nice but it is more different than an actual upgrade. If you want the new OS try to wait for the upgrade or get the 5555 which still lets you use the sleeves and doesn't have a smaller screen like the 2210 which is 3.5" and 128MB of RAM.

See my signature. I would move to a 2215 1000x over. I am so confident I am selling all my sleeve & sleeve accessories on eBay(seller name BIGoffroad, BTW)

I'm in the same boat. I think I'm going to stick with my 5450 since size is not that big of a concern with me and I already have the sleeves I need. Just my $0.02
