I was just at hp's U.S. site and it lists the 5555 as in stock. Hopefully it won't take too long to migrate North to Canada.

Their purchase site for businesses still has it listed at July 16, 2003 (but with free shipping)

I'm wondering how long it will take it to show up on store shelves in the U.S. Specifically BestBuy as I have an e740 to return there.

Someone on another "popular" site called HP and confirmed with three people there that they have 5555's in stock and are shipping them. Lets hope for reviews from those overnight shipping folks.

A rep at the local CompUSA (chandler, AZ) said that today the product disposition for the new 5555s changed. They are listed as shipped and are expected tomorrow or Thurs.

CompUSA rep just called me to inform that they have the 5555s in stock now... I, however, impatiently ordered overnight from HP about two hours ago... C'est la vie

I don't think the 5550 has CIR. I have never used the 5450 but I can tell you the 5550 IR sucks. I installed the remote control from www.pdawin.com and used it to learn several buttons from my Mitsubishi TV (the IR codes for my TV were not included in the software). I could not get the IR to work at more than 5 feet. I don't know how to verify whether the hardware is not CIR but it surely isn't good.

Other than the CIR, how do you like your 5550?
