No jokes, truly, asking a serious question.
Is it just a cool "thing", what is the REAL practicality?
I can't wait to read the threads.
Thanks in advance! 8)

Listening to WMAs, looking at photos, playing games, tuning my guitar, keeping track of homework assignments and other calendar things, remembering birthdays, reading the news, keeping tasks, looking up contacts... probably in that order. And what I do is pretty unsubstantial compared to some others on these boards.

I dunt know, but I think the original poster was asking ... what kind of applications that you can run on 2003, but not on 2002.

Where did he even mention 2003 or 2002? He just asked about the practicality of the Pocket PC.

Fairly normal stuff:

Watching DivX encoded feature films (from DVD's I own only), listening to WMA's, keeping up to date with Nascar, Golf & Tech News via AvantGo, reading e-books (I keep the LOTR trilogy on me at ALL times!), looking up my contacts for work & personal reasons, reading e-mail, tracking all financial transactions in MS Money, surfing the web via WiFi at home, and keeping my daily schedule...again, both work and personal.

Reading, scheduling, reading, e-mail, reading, writing, reading, address book, the occasional game, did I mention reading, databases, spreadsheets, project planning, maps, Bible, calculator, and password management.

All on a lowly e310.

Playing games.
Keeping track of addresses, schedule, reservations, etc.
Navigation (with GPS).
Accessing the internet (with cable and cell phone).
Listening to music.

My mistake  I guess all this pocketPC 2003 hooplah is getting on my nerve. Sorry.

I actually use mine for PIM... lol. But that's only a small part of it.

Textmaker I use all the time to keep notes
I generally use my PPC to tell time; don't even wear a watch, I just whip it out to check
I also use it as a calculator
Games, MP3s and encoded DVDs make school much more bearable! :p
Avantgo is useful too...
But when I can get it, mobile internet access is a great way to stay updated away from a computer.
Did I mention games and movies?
Oh yeah, I actually enjoy showing it off to other people, especially those with Palms who get all jealous and wonder why they still use their overpriced calculators...

Hehehe yeah its great when you can show it off....but it makes me  and :frusty: when some person im trying to impress says... Oh thats a real nice PALM osadjbfaiojfgnaijg.... :really mad: :soapbox:

ebooks, ebooks and more ebooks!

Workwise the main thing I would use my Jornada for is drafting documents with Pocket word or Textmaker (depends on how complicated the document is) and my Stowaway Keyboard.

I have never really used the PIM side of things much - just the odd task list or really important appointment.

I have just got a wifi card for the Jornada so wireless web surfing (Netfront of course!) and email has now become a bigger part of my PPC usage.

Oh yeh did I mention more ebooks :D

I use it to listen to the radio via the WLAN link around the home (cheaper than buying a new digital radio to listen to some of the fine offerings from the BBC here in the UK).

I also use it to keep an eye on email without being chained to a desk (except when somebody else is using the PC since ActiveSync isn't up to the job of checking my email when somebody else is logged on to their XP profile).

My daughter uses it to play games whenever she gets hold of it

Apart from that I use it to listen to the radio (BBC7)

One day I will get around to using it for GPS.

oh, and I use it as a radio :D

Lemonade Tycoon

...and showing my geekiness to friends of course!

I use my Pocket PC constantly. I can't imagine life without it.

I use it for:
Keeping up with the news
Reading eBooks
Reading blogs
Keeping track of my money
Calendar
To-do list
Other lists
Getting my bearings - it displays the weather, time and date
Playing games
Listening to music
Viewing pictures
Showing Flash animations (Homestar Runner!)
Goalsetting (Achieve-It!)
Keeping track of maintenance and mileage for my car

First and foremost I use my PDA to keep track of my schedule and my contacts, basic PIM'ing. After that, listening to music and reading Avantgo/Mazingo on the ride to and from work on the subway, playing games to pass the time away, keep track of my finances (or lack there of) with Pocket MS Money. And a few ebooks here and there.

I use my Jornada almost exclusively for work... and like some of the other poster I can't function without it!

Pocket Informant is loaded at all times and is used everyday for a large portion of the time I am awake. Tasks are my main area of interest although contact management and appointments naturally are used reguarly.

I don't play games! I have listened to music in the past but not at the moment!

My Jornada is a real friend and helper in my work. I really don't know if I can cope without it!

That's my story and I'm sticking' to it :D

Seriously though...you will note the caveat "via GPRS" on the email and web browsing. I don't normally use my Axim for web browsing and email if I am at home with a nice fat broadband connection. If I'm out of town its a different story...many times a day in that case.

And games??? Well, that is an average, sometimes more sometime less
