Advice needed on Media Encoder 9

I have tried to convert some avi and mpeg files using the new media encoder (9) but the program just hangs. I have tried re installing but still no joy. I am using a pentium 2.4 processor and have 512mb of ram. My system also has a nvidia geforce4 TI4200 graphics card if thats relevent.
Can anyone tell me if there is a problem with the new encoder.

I have just tried to convert a movie with win movie maker 2 and have the same problem - I am running XP home edition. Could there be a compatability problem with my hardware and the software ?

I do have to set the audio to 44 each time...need to figure out how to do that and make it permanent...I mainly have been converting videos to watch...but have had no problem...used it on 2 different machines....

I see no one offered a solution...did you try going to microsoft newsgroups?

then choose (in the left frame) Windows, then Windows Media, and finally Encoder...I bet you will find your answer there after a search or you can post it...
