Well, today is the day that Microsoft unvieled their brand new OS, Windows Mobile. When I was asked by Dell’s Public Relations Representitive for the Dell Axim brand Pocket PC to review the all new OS, I was honored. When I started this site 6 months ago on a $10 a month hosting plan, I never imagined what Aximsite would become. Well here we are and we have plenty to report."<br /><br />This is a very detailed article Windows Mobile 2003 that goes into almost obscene detail about the new OS, and is a must-read for you Dell Axim owners. Way to go Aximsite!

I can't believe they are going to make us pay for our upgrade. Oh well, I will still do it. :D

That is a great review although it's way too early in the morning to want to read all the detail. Good job Axim Site!!!! :way to go:

Also fantastic news that Dell are making the upgrade available. I believe they are the first manufacturer to confirm this, which with their good service with the other ROM upgrades was to be expected.

I don't believe too many people thought the upgrades would have been free, I certainly have never had a free Windows upgrade from MS.

W00t.... hehe oh well I guess this might have to do it for me instead of that 2200 series. Mmmm im still going to wait for Dell to announce their new Axim(I hope they do)

I have a q... does this mean the Axim Advance runs just like the 2215???

I have a q... does this mean the Axim Advance runs just like the 2215??? Since I've personally have seen the incredible speed change in iPaq h5450 from PPC2002 to PPC2003, I would quess YES, but it's just a quess :-)

I'm buying the PPC2003 update soon...

Good question. This will make up my mind weather or not to upgrade. Of course eventually all the software will be written for the new "standard" and you will be forced to upgrade anyway. The test results on Aximsite do no look to promising though.

I would guess it won't since the Axim still has the restriction of the 100MHz memory bus.

However, I would still expect to see an improvement over the current Axim.

Great review! Here's an upgrade question though:

Is there any or as much of a speed benefit to upgrading the Axim if you have the PXA250 processor? I bought my Dell in December and have the slightly older CPU......

Thanks!

Um, I thought all PXA255's had the 200mhz bus, was I wrong?

I was under the same impression, which is why I think I know the answer to my question in a previous post re: if you have have PXA 250, do you upgrade......my guess is not for the speed reasons, but I'm looking for some validation.

Thanks,
KCT

Well, actually it can use either a 100 or 200MHz bus, however to use a 200 MHz bus, the rest of the system must support it too (memory etc). Speed increase could be expected only from devices specifically designed for 200 MHz bus. Older designs (even if they contain now PXA255) still use 100MHz bus.

Did the PPCT effect crash aximsite server? 8O

As an Axim owner I checked that site regularly. I was slow in getting up to speed this morning after my marathon read of the new Harry Potter book. Went to check what you guys were talking about and found "server is too busy" message :mecry:.

Is it just me (it probobly is since some of you have already posted replies) or does the link provided not work??? I can't get www.aximsite.com to open up in the first place >>> "The Page Can Not Be Displayed"...

Give it time and it will be back up.

Between the PPT Effect and just the tons of Axim users we "hurting"...

There is in excess of 500 users on the site right now so we'll see when that calms down... All I can say is keep trying and you might get in to read at least one page of the article. 8O

Might as well. Especially if you're extremely connected via your PPC.

Other than that... Geeks always have to have the latest.

I can't believe they are going to make us pay for our upgrade.

Was Windows 98, 2000, XP, or anything else that takes 18 months to develop free?

The order form has not been released yet on Dell's website. I have received no insight on when you will be able to order MM2003.

I just ordered the upgrade cd from Dell phone sales. The woman I talked to had no problem finding it (took her about 30 seconds). The cost was $34.50 including shipping and the estimated ship date was "on or before July 22"

I hope it doesn't take a month to ship!

Oops. Yeah, I should have clarified that I meant web orders aren't up, earlier. I'm pretty sure that phone orders are completely open for it already.

I just ordered it; no problem at all by phone. Same price and estimated shipping date as LedPocket was told.

The 255 CPU has an internal bus of 200mhz, but Axim owners are still held back by the 100mhz memory bus as I understand it.

on another note, THANKS to JASON and his site for KILLING MY SERVER...hehe...Thanks for posting the article... My webhosting guys are scrambling as we speak to upgrade the box for now. I anticipate some relief with the nect 30 min.

Sorry for any inconvience, we are not equipped to handle 600+ visits at once...hehe. The last time I "got in" I took a screenshot of 480 users online in the forums....WOW

Thanks !
