This is more than just a surface change - the mobile devices group (Pocket PC & Smartphone) now lives under the Windows division and they all report up to Jim Alchin. For those that have interacted with Jim before, you'll know why this is a good thing: he's very down to earth, likes plain talk, and gets stuff done. This is a great move on Microsoft's part and really solidifies their commitment to the platform in my eyes. Microsoft cares deeply about anything bearing the Windows label, and now that the Pocket PC is based on the Windows Mobile platform, it means good things for all of us.

I guess this confirms that ActiveStynch is about to come under the Windows team for redevelopment and integration into the main OS... YAY!

It's 5:38 AM PST, and it's not up. :-(

Worse, Microsoft's Pocket PC page (http://www.pocketpc.com) doesn't mention anything, either. In fact, it hasn't been updated since April 29th.

its microsoft... they had a problem. you ever want an OS to work perfectly ever, everyone loves hard resets. they probably crashed their server 2003 again and can't fix it.

Give it time. It can take a while for pages to replicate through MS's server farm.

So what're the official names? Windows Mobile for Pocket PC and Windows Mobile for SmartPhone?

Quite a mouthful, but can we continue to say just Pocket PC (and PPC), for example?

The site is live now. I had to clear my cache for it to work.

The Power Toys listed on the Downloads page are still the same ones listed for Pocket PC 2002 and as far back as Pocket PC 2000.

That's not even the same version of CE anymore.

I guess I'm a little thick in the skull, but I'm not sure I understand the rebranding. With all the money poured into PPC as a platform, why the transition? Is this an indication of a larger effort/concern on MSFT's side?

Also, does this site now become Windows Mobile Thoughts :?:

Pocket PC is still the hardware that Windows Mobile 2003 runs on.
