I am curious to find out how people use ListPro? I am looking for a program to help me keep info and tasks about projects at work (almost like project management, but not as complex) and I thought the heirarchical tasks in Pocket Informant might work, but have read around that there are issues with data loss and such since links are only stored in PI and don't transfer to Outlook (run-on sentences rock!!). Does anyone use ListPro like this and can you offer any tips?

Thanks everyone.

There's actually a thread here (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10527&highlight=listpro) pretty much exactly answering your questions. Hopefully that'll help.

I think I posted an answer to the previous thread mentioned above, so I won't get into Listpro here, but it does have advantages over the hierarchical tasks in PI. The biggest problem with the hierarchical tasks is (as also mentioned above) the links are not transferred to Outlook. I updated the ROM on my 5450 when the update was released and when I synchronized for the first time afterwards, all the hierarchical tasks had been made root level. It's a lot of work to drag and drop them back into place afterwards.

The hierarchical task function in PI is useful, but not nearly as robust as Listpro.

You can also consider this one http://www.happyjackroad.com/AtomicDB/pocketpc/ideaLibrary/idea.asp,
it's not so customizable as List Pro but you can attach files and outlook task, they even have a beta of the desktop companion. At least they're free of charge

tmulli,

There's not much in the other thread about "mini project managemant", which is what you asked about, and is what I use it for.

Basically, I use it to create checklists for the progress of a project. Most of my projects have a simillar structure, but not all include all elements. So, I created a master list (a template) that includes all possible stages, and list pro's superb flagging feature to select those that are apropriate to a given project. Hiding the unflagged items results in a project specific checklist, without the possibility of forgetting to include a key stage, or of being distracted by irrelavent stages. The list can be printed once completed as a record that all stages were complete.

These screen shots were taken from the desktop version, but exactly the same functions exist on the PPC:

Master list, or template

Select key stages using the flags on the left, click the flag button, and you end up with:

Project specific list

I'm a real PI fan (moderator on their forum, beta tester etc), but to be honest think that HT's are only useful to people who don't sync with Outlook. If you do, your task list in Outlook will be completely messed up. Therefore I use PI/Outlook for individual tasks like "Call Joe Bloggs" or "Solve problem X", and ListPro for structured project checklists.

HTH

:D

Mark, Thanks!! That was more what I was looking for. I have been trying to use the listpro trial, but have been so busy, I haven't been able to really dig into it yet. I didn't even think about creating a master list template and then hiding un-needed parts. Thanks for the suggestions and screenshots. Really helped to get me thinking. Thanks again!!
