View Full Version : GREAT New Deal From T-Mobile!

We were just informed that as of today T-Mobile has restructured their wireless data plans, and BOY! what a deal they're offering!<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/adrian/tmobile.gif" /><br /><br />For $19.99, you can get UNLIMITED wireless Internet access when coupled to a voice service of at least $29.99. I had been paying $19.99 for just 10MB. Sometimes these deals are reserved for new customers only, though, so I called T-Mobile technical support (800-937-8997) and within five minutes my account had been switched to the new data plan!<br /><br />Zowie! I've always been kind of reluctant to use my data services too freely, because I don't want to use up all my bits. But now I can connect and surf and read news and download e-mail and IM my kids while I'm away and... Well, you get the picture. So, if you're ever in an airport or other public place and you hear somebody hummng happily, it'll be ME, sitting in a corner enjoying my unlimited access.<br /><br /><b>Update:</b> T-Mobile has updated their <a href="http://www.t-mobile.com/plans/default.asp?tab=internet">internet plan page</a>. They killed all of their plans and put in one - $29.99 for all you can eat. Scott R. has told us that it is $19.99 when you add a voice plan though. :way to go:

This is only for the T-Mobile Sidekick. This is not a usual data plan. The Sidekicks use a backend service to compress and manage the data, therefore it's much more efficient than a usual GPRS straight-to-the-Internet connection.

On another related note, though... previously, the Sidekick plan was just a couple of voice/data combo plans, and unlimited data was only for the first year of service.

With the release of their color Sidekick, they are now allowing users to choose any voice plan and add the unlimited Sidekick data plan as a bolt-on.

They also have a data-only (no voice) plan for Sidekicks that's unlimited and just $29.

No, this is for ANY type of device. The plan just started today, so I called T-Mobile and confirmed. It even includes PDAs and notebooks.

Trust me. They asked me what kind of phone I have (Pocket PC Phone Edition) and they switched me right away.

I think Brad is refering to the Hot-Spot WiFi service add-on. Too bad no locations in Ohio yet. :(

Yep. kdross is correct. The $20 unlimited data bolt-on is for Sidekicks only. Danger offers an end-to-end solution which reduces the bandwidth requirements tremendously. There's no way T-Mobile is going to open the flood gates for just any device. The hiptop platform is the only exception for now. If you received your information from a T-Mobile rep, then you need to find a new source. Many of the T-Mobile reps are clueless when it comes to data and the uniqueness of the Sidekick.

Update: If he's referring to their HotSpot service, that's a whole different ball game. I can't comment on that, but I can tell you that unlimited GPRS for $20 is not an option for non-Sidekicks.

I haven't spoken to T-Mobile yet (cancelled my GPRS gouging plan a long time ago), but from the looks of their site it looks like the $20/month is for the unlimited sidekick data plan OR unlimited Hotspot (802.11b) access. :(

On a side note, if you use Verizon's 1xRTT data service, the unlimited data plan has dropped from $99 to $79. You have to call to request the change, but they will change your plan.

I use it extensively with my Pocket PC and my Laptop. I can't imagine not having constant wireless access!

Yep. kdross is correct. The $20 unlimited data bolt-on is for Sidekicks only.
Did you call T-Mobile directly?

All I know is that I did call T-Mobile. I did tell them that my device is a Pocket PC Phone Edition. The did tell me that this new wireless Internet access is a replacement for my existing 10MB plan. They did tell me that within two hours my plan would switch from 10MB to unlimited. The did tell me that their Web site has not been updated to reflect the new plan.

Nowhere was the term "hotspot" even mentioned.

They told me in a couple of hours my account would be switched over. If later today I can't connect, I guess we'll know that somebody at T-Mobile made a BIIIIIG mistake. ;)

Another discussion has been taking place here (http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=674c46a6bff0ed66b8c4625180c5717b&threadid=150738&perpage=15&pagenumber=2) that seems to confirm this.

VZW is $80 unlimited...

Or, using one of the new convergance devices (Blackberry, Kyocera 7135, Samsung i700):
$50 unlimited data (as a standalone data-only plan)
or
$45 unlimited data when coupled with a voiceplan
(These plans also include "wireless sync")

Or... and this is the new deal since June 2:
Pay NOTHING extra for data and use EXPRESS NETWORK against your voice minute allotment (and that includes N&W useage, as well) - This is the way the 14.4 QNC service used to work

The only catch on this last one is that you have to be on a plan that was introduced on or after June 2- so if you may have to call customer service and "refresh" your plan (possibly extending your contract)

I have T-Mobile and switched over to their $20 unlimited Internet Access (HotSpots) plan about a month ago. They didn't ask me what phone I had either. I've been humming away ever since :D

If we're talking about a GPRS connection, then $20 unlimited is an amazing deal. As soon as I cancel my second phone account with them (I don't need two cell phones anymore), I'll be tempted to get onto this deal as well.

I bet this will bring MANY business users to T-Mobile. Unlike other providers I've had, it looks like T-Mobile is really trying to keep their customers happy and taking a proactive approach with them by offering great services. It seems if they can pass on savings to their customers, they do.

I think I can confirm this. I just got off the phone after switching my plan, which was the $35/20 per month plan to the $19/unlimited plan. I called from my phone, (611), selected Option 2 for Internet data, and said I heard the plan was available today and asked if that were true. I then went ahead and switched.

This is clearly a good deal for me since it cuts my wireless data cost. It will be interesting to see whether this brings more customers to T-mobile.

Here in Prague I use the services of T-Mobiles competitor, Eurotel, and they offer a similar service except that its unlimited GPRS usage for around $20 when you convert the price.
Anyway the point is that like you Brad I was hesitant to use it at first, but once i switched over onto the unlimited plan, I was in 7th heaven.... :D

Welcome to the club, I doubt youll want to go back, ever :)

It is indeed true...Brad, don't worry. I think the problem was that CS wasn't fully informed of this in their system until the past few hours.

Yes, $19.99 for unlimited GPRS (not HotSpots, not anything else...GPRS) for any voice plan over $29.99.

This is only a Sidekick plan. They may have you signed up for it, but the reps are making a huge mistake. This plan is not for anything but the Sidekicks.

I live in Hungary. One of the local three mobile providers, Vodafone Hungary have been offering unlimited GPRS access for only $10 for more than a year now.

I think it is a good idea to use it with a bluetooth enabled pocketpc and bluetooth phone. I have a 3970 and a t68i, so I dont have to squeeze a ppc phone edition into my pocket, I can bring my iPAQ in my bag, and the t68i fits nicely into my pocket. Its just much more comfortable this way.

It's just that it is *so* un-T-Mobile-ish to give anything away. :)

If it is true, I think it's great! I just can't get myself to beleive it is intentional.

This is a huge step in the US for them. Surely, they would have had a huge fanfare and press releases, and such about this.

I haven't seen any of that yet.

I hope what you say is true. I have a Sprint Treo 300 and enjoy unlimited data but have been tempted by some of the Bluetooth phones from other providers (such as T-Mobile). I couldn't see myself moving away from Sprint due to their unlimited data plan, though. I've been anxiously awaiting the upcoming Sony BT Sprint phone (T608, I think). If what you say is true, it definitely increases the options out there and would be wonderful news. For now, I'll remain skeptically optimistic.

This new unlimited plan is cool! I just called t-mobile and the rep confirmed that it is available for the pocketpc phone. It's not only for the Sidekick!

I do have one issue though using my pocketpc phone, I get very slow speeds when I connect and alot of times it times out on me when I try to access sites. Are there any settings I can set up to improve this? BTW, on the accelerator page, it's already set to the fastest setting.

This is awesome for you T-Mobile guys (gals), 8O
but what ever happened to the AWS unlimited plan?????

I heard that was coming out as well, "soon" they said, but I haven't heard anything, and when I call CS, they say that there is no such thing coming.
If they miss this, they are going to lose a lot of data customers to T-Mobile.

BTW, for you GSM guys, I heard that AWS didn't sign a roaming agreement either with T-Mobile, so that means no extra usage of area too.

all not good for us AWS users.

OK, so if this turns out to be true, I have a couple of sort of off-topic questions:

1) My understanding is that the standard email program that comes with the PPC can't poll for email periodically. There was a news blurb on this site within the last week which talked about a 3rd party app that was supposed to remedy this, but the first several posts to that thread indicated that it was buggy or didn't work at all. Any resolution on this?

2) I've heard about issues with maintaining Bluetooth connections with PPCs (and perhaps Palms as well). Anyone keep their Bluetooth-enabled PPC connected to their T-Mobile BT phone (e.g. Nokia 3650 or Sony-Ericsson T68) successfully? If it drops connections, are there apps that will automatically restore them? This is kind of related to question #1 because my interest would be in producing an always-on (or, more accurately, frequently polled) email environment.

Thanks,

Scott

As a T-Mobile Authorized dealer, I can personally vouch for the truth of this new plan. The details are as follows:

ADD ON PLAN:
1. $29.99 voice plan required
2. $19.99 for unlimited INTERNET data & WAP (T-ZONES) data
3. 300 Text Messages
4. Applicable to new & OLD customers alike

This plan is phone independent (not limited to the Sidekick), but requires a $29.99 voice plan to be maintained.

STAND ALONE PLAN
1. $29.99 monthly fee
2. Unlimited INTERNET data & WAP (T-ZONES) data
3. 300 text messages
4. Applicable to new & OLD customers alike

This plan is phone independent (not limited to the Sidekick), and requires a one year contract

Every time I call them they give me 100-200 additional minutes just "for the trouble of having to call in."

I just signed up for their VPN version of that plan, same price ($19.99), same features, except I will also have the ability to connect to a corporate VPN (which you don't with their regular data plan). Its no joke... $19.99 for unlimited GPRS!

Time to finally break down and buy a Bluetooth Pocket PC.

I have t-mobile. I have the 20$ data plan. I willl call tonight and i will have the unlimited plan. This is simply amazing. So there needs to be a new thread started of what are the best low bandwidth wireless apps around. I kept my wireless usage pretty low while i only had 10mb and i always had images off for browsing. So now I can do anything it will just be slow. So who has some suggestions for me... This is a wonderfull day i think i will celebrate it each year.

I've had Sprint and Verizon before switching to Voicestream which was then bought by T-Mobile. T-Mobile has been by far, THE BEST provider I have ever dealt with. They are SO on top of the ball. Their customer service is great! And they have the greatest spokesperson any carrier has ever had too

Two questions:
1) How fast does your GPRS connection get? I have a T28i phone which can't get GPRS. But since I heard connection speeds were slow, I didn't really care.

2) Any word on a MS based Smartphone with SDIO, Bluetooth GPRS and tri-band GSM will be out? Who will be making it?

Yep, just signed up myself .. had heard about it coming yesterday so I'm glad to see it confirmed.

Interesting story, while in Dallas last week I called T-Mo to ask why I could no longer see my data usage stats to make sure I didn't go over 10MB. The guy I spoke with wasn't really sure but said they were updating stuff.

Now it makes sense, why bother tracking data usage when there is no longer a limit. :)

This can depend on the local provider, in smaller areas they are probably using switch-based data, which is a lowly GPRS. In some areas it is GPRS which will be faster.[/quote]

How about speed, and a "quick connect" mechanism? GPRS Monitor's block count is immensely useful to me as a progress meter, especially when GPRS bogs down in marginal signal areas.

I have a 3650, so that isn't it.

As to your other questions - I don't poll my email so have no clue what third party apps are available. I have noticed that I can rarely keep a BT connection to my 3650 longer than an hour or so before it drops. Usually rebooting the 3650 fixes it. That's right, the 3650, not the 3970.

I just looked at the TMobile site out of curiosity. How can you tell which phones are Bluetooth-enabled? I didn't see it mentioned on any of them.I think the Nokia 3650 may be the only one sold on their site. But if you're not a T-Mobile customer now and are thinking about becoming one (and pairing it via BT to a PPC) because of this news, I would tell you two things:

1) You can get a better deal on the phones through Amazon. From there you can get either a Nokia 3650 or Sony-Ericsson T68i for free after rebates.

2) Sony-Ericsson is coming out with the T608 BT phone for Sprint (rumored to be within a month or so). If they allow you to pair it with a PDA and still use unlimited data through their standard Vision phone plans, this could be a better option. The Sprint network has better coverage in most areas and the data speed is higher. The plan prices may be a bit cheaper, too, depending on your needs (but I'm not 100% sure on that last one).

Agreed, Phone Scoop rocks. That said, I think the only phone that T-Mobile is currently actively carrying (Phone Scoop lists a few that they no longer carry, but that you could get through 3rd-party resellers/eBay) that's Bluetooth-enabled is the Nokia 3650 (which Scott mentions). The beauty of GSM networks, though, is the ability to buy a third-party triband phone and just pop the SIM card in it. That's how I got my T68 a long time ago.

My guess is that it'll take a few days for the new pricing plans to spread around to all of T-Mobile's resellers, including Amazon.

Hello everyone.
I just got off the phone with T-Mobile and was able to update my account to $19.99 unlimited internet data from the $19.99 10MB plan. I use the service to connect my Dell Axim to the internet via bluetooth using my T68i.

I agree about ATTWS. They better wake up and smell the coffee on the unlimited data plans or they will find themselves with some subscriber churn. They are about the only major wireless carrier right now that does not offer any kind of unlimited data plans, making their data some of the most expensive out there.

Question:

I have a T68i on Tmobile and have the 9.99 plan, and have an iPaq with a Socket Bluetooth card. I have been connecting through my T68i by dialing an ISP on my iPaq - is there a way to connect directly via GPRS to the internet without doing a dial (from the iPaq)? :?:

And I do plan on converting the 9.99 Tzone thing over to the 19.99 AYCE plan.

Thanks.

Yes, this is definately cool. I have the Sidekick (running a beta development OS, woo hoo!) so this doesn't affect me, but for all of those with PPC Phones, it's a big deal. Thanks t-mobile.

BTW - If you haven't tried the SK you're missing out. I've used PPC phones, and they're cool, but I haven't seen anything close to the microbrowser and thumbkeyboard on the SK (ThunderHawk comes close, but it's another $50 per year and you still have to find a decent thumb keyboard).

A few people have downplayed this T-Mobile thing by mentioning Sprint's unlimitted Vision plan... but this is no more than T-Zones. I did hear that originally Sprint wasn't really cracking down on the distinction but I've heard otherwise in more recent months. I have Sprint's unlimited Vision and I'm so jealous of T-Mobile customers now. If only I didn't have to wait till November before it is possible to transfer phone numbers. Sprint is gonna die. My phone costs 300 buck (Samsung a500) and doesn't do squat. Meanwhile I could get a pocketpc phone for less or a bluetooth enabled phone for free by switching to T-Mobile... if only i could. Soon I'll be using my new HP 2200 PPC and a T-Mobile bluetooth phone. A boy can dream can't he?

ed,

i got a t68i and ipaq 3970.
Ok, first you need to "bond" the devices. Enable bluetooth on the t68 and iPAQ. On the iPAQ, start the bluetooth manager from the little blue icon in the lower right of the Today screen. Make the T68 "discoverable" in its connection settings. Now tell the iPAQ to search. Check off the t68 when the iPAQ finds it, hit save, then tap on the cell phone in the BT manager. On the actions menu, select "Create Bond With This Device."

Now, for the dialing:

• Start|Settings|Connection|Modem|New Connection
• Select "Bluetooth Modem"
• Change the baud to 38,400.
• Leave "advanced" alone
• Next
• Clear the country and local code. Be careful here. When you edit the connection, country and area code will be filled back in. Keep deleting it.
• Type "*99***x#" for the number and replace "x" with the CID code on your phone you are dialing. See below to figure out which one you want.
• Next
• Uncheck "Wait for dialtone"
• Finish
• Select the Dialing tab
• New
• Call it GPRS or something.
• Dialing Patterns
• Replace everything in all three boxes with just the letter "g"
• Connect. Don't enter any userid or password info. T-Mobile doesn't require it.

To find out your CID code, on the T68i,
• Menu
• Connect icon (middle of bottom row)
• Data Comm
• Data Accounts
• You probably want either Internet2 or Internet3. Internet3 allows VPN calls which you might need for your work email system.
• Select Internet2. See the third line - CID=2 (or whatever it is on your phone?) that means you change the x above to a 2.

If you have no networks configured, create a new one.
• Add account
• GPRS Data
• Call it whatever
• APN: make it internet3.voicestream.com
• leave the password and user ID blank.
• If that fails to work, try internet2.voicestream.com or internet.voicestream.com. I know internet3 will work but you might need to call t-Mobile to enable your account for that network as it has the VPN connection.

Enjoy! :way to go:

this owns, so much. Ive been using a t68i with a dell over bluetooth, but because of the 10 meg limit, i browse with images off and only pda formated sites at that (even loading html, big sites like cnn will take 150Kbytes of bandwidth for the front page). sometimes my fav sites like fark.com wernt usable over goodles wml proxy. I just got my internet plan changed to this in 5 minutes. Can't wait to finally be browsing using full images, who cares if its 33.6 speeds.

This is awesome news. I'm hoping this will have a ripple effect on my current provider (Cingular) when I'm in the market for GPRS in a few months.

My only fear is that this may be an attempt by T-Mobile to quickly boost subscriber numbers by charging a low usage price for a service with ZERO performance guarantees. The execs hit their targets and we all end up with an "affordably priced" money sink. :|

I hope I'm wrong, though.

Try deleting your anyuser@t-mobile cookie, soft resetting then reconnect. It should bring up a dialog box in PIE asking how much you want T-Mobile to optimize the images. I left mine at the default. It is not the best resolution, but good enough and makes the downloads faster.

I had her check twice and she said that it didn't. She kept offering me a $2.99 upgrade for 500 SMS. I bit. I just hope I'm not being taken. If I'm not, then the whole lot of you are going to be charged like crazy for your SMS'ing this month.

As a T-Mobile Authorized dealer, I can personally vouch for the truth of this new plan. The details are as follows:

Also...I just called them and existing data plans are Grandfathered into the new unlimited plan as of today. So, if you are laready on the 19.95 plan, it is now unlimited. Looks like there is no need to call unless you want VPN support.

just switched my account and asked about this. they said the can not make any changes to peoples plan without them calling. tmobile will not automatically change your 10/meg month plan to unlimited (even though its the same price). you must call them and request the unlimited plan. takes about 10 minutes and 2 hours to activate.

We just got 2 laptops w/ built-in Bluetooth (as well as WiFi a+b). Would be oh so sweet to pair w/ our T68i's and BlueSpoons (not to mention future PPCs), except that we're on ATTWS

EDIT: I guess one alternative is just to pay T-Mo $30 and use a dedicated GPRS-data CF/PCMCIA card for the laptop/PPC (and still keep our ATTWS voice plans separately)...

I've used gprs through bluetooth to my powerbook for the last year while travelling.

Sounds great. If I do get T-Mo, I wonder how IBM's Access Connections (or any 3rd-party network profile manager) will work? The ThinkPad has built-in gigabit Ethernet, WiFi a+b, and BT. Right now the Ethernet & WiFi are all automatic, prioritizing the fastest available link at any given time (and turning off the unneeded connections), and when traveling to another place w/ a different LAN it autodetects and switches all relevant system/network settings in a few seconds w/o me having to do anything. I hope the BT GPRS Internet access will be directly supported in the same manner (so the ThinkPad would automatically switch to T-Mo GPRS when no Ethernet/WiFi detected)...

Sorry I'm not thinking clearly...

Well, there are small-market resellers, sometimes local in your area, but you'll have to hunt around for 'em.

Otherwise, fire off an email to Amazon. I'm sure they'll reflect it within a few weeks to a month, in any case, but you can certainly ask.

Interested in getting that first month of unlimited access free?

There's a promotional offer associated with their $2.99/month data plan where your initial 30 days of access is free and unlimited (it's as if you had the $19.99 plan). Strange thing is that the same promotion doesn't exist with the $19.99 plan.

However, upon speaking with the T-Mobile rep, there's nothing stoppin gyou from "trialing" that $2.99 plan for the first 30 days (which would be free) and then switching over to the $19.99 plan afterwards. The rep even set me up so that after the first 30 days, my plan will automatically change to the 19.99 plan.

Hi All,

I am currently NOT a T-Mobile subscriber and I would like to sign up for the T-Mobile plan which have the unlimited GPRS. My questions are:

1. NEW APPLICATION
When I am applying for the above plan, would the T-Mobile authorized dealer know of the $ 29.99 voice plan WITH unlimited GPRS or is there a name for this special plan that I need to quote? Sometimes the dealer are unaware of new plan such as this one, so I just want to make sure I got the correct one.

2. GPRS
Will the authorized dealer be able to set up all the necessary WAP GPRS and GPRS Internet, or do I have to contact T-Mobile directly for this?

Thanks!

Ekkie Tepsupornchai

If you're purchasing a new phone with the contract from T-Mo, then the phone should be pre-configured. If you're using a pre-existing GSM phone (that's been unlocked of course) from another service, then you can get the required settings from the T-Mo site (don't have the link offhand, but I did see a page with all the settings defined).

Don't know about your first question. Though I do know that the special deal I got on my phone (Nokia3650 for free) required me to subscribe to a plan of at least $39.99/month (which I was going to do regardless).

lanwarrior

Hi ekkie,

So you're saying that when you got the Special Deal (I assume you were a New subscriber back then?) and paid $ 39.99, it ALREADY comes with the unlimited GPRS with no extra charge?

What I want to clarify is that when I applied for the voice plan with T-Mobile as a new subscriber, I can ensure that I can get the unlimited GPRS included and not playing phone tag with customer service afterwards to "add" the unlimited GPRS plan.

Ekkie Tepsupornchai

So you're saying that when you got the Special Deal (I assume you were a New subscriber back then?) and paid $ 39.99, it ALREADY comes with the unlimited GPRS with no extra charge?
No. The $39.99 is just for my voiceplan (1000 anytime minutes). It's my standard plan (had the same kind of plan with AT&T Wireless too) which also allowed me to get my Nokia 3650 for free.

The unlimited data plan is an additional $19.99, but by asking first for the $2.99 plan, you actually get unlimited access for free for the first 30 days before the standard $2.99 plan kicks in. So what I was saying is that if you want to pay the additional $19.99 for unlimited access, you should go ahead and do the special promotion with the $2.99 plan first, and then "change your mind" after 30 days and switch.

It's the cheapest I've seen an unlimited data plan yet. If ALL you want is the data, and dont care about a voice plan, you can get an unlimited data-only plan for 29.99. This does allow voice calls but includes no minutes so the second you make a call you're racking up ridiculous airtime fees.

Ed Hansberry

Well, this has been slightly misleading, but it is still a great deal.

Turns out the old data plans inlcuded T-Zones, which is what you use to actually access WAP stuff on your phone (Don't guess that applies to PPCPE) and SMS messages.

If you send SMS or want to use T-Zones WAP on your cell, you need to resubscribe to the $2.99/mo T-Zones plan. Otherwise, you'll get dinged for a nickle for each SMS message. It is no longer included in the data plan.

Still not too bad. I went from $19.99 for 10MB, T-Zones and SMS to $22.98 which is unlimited data, T-Zones and SMS.

Thanks Ed,

Didn't know that... I guess I won't cancel my "trial" on the $2.99 plan after all.

Im at tmobile going through the shopping cart like im going to buy the $29.95 national plan with the nokia 3650.

T-Mobile internet (Wireless data network that provides instant access to the Internet from your handset):

Unlimited t-zones pro Unlimited $0 per additional MB $9.99

What is 'Unlimited t-zones pro... you can add it to your account for $9.99 a month and its unlimited tmobile internet. I thought you said adding unlimited data was $19 a month?

The summary screen of my plan in the shopping cart:

Your selected data plan: Unlimited t-zones pro
Price: $9.99 (per line, per month)
Data transfer: Unlimited (per month)
Two-way text messaging: 300 (per month)
Additional megabytes: Free (per MB, per month)

T-Zones is referring to data access provided via the phone browser I believe. It's definitely not the same thing as the unlimited GPRS usage plan discussed in this thread.

I didn't select any data plans when I bought my 3650 last month. I just selected my voice plan and then called T-Mo after receiving the phone to add the unlimited data plan. The data plan descriptions weren't clear enough for me to commit to anything.

I just applied for the UNLIMITED T-Zone for $ 9.99 and was told that this is NOT the same as the T-Mobile Internet. T-Zone, according to the rep. at T-Mobile retail store (not just a regular authorized agent) AND the Customer Service, does NOT allow GPRS Data via PC or PDA.

Well, guess what? I was able to connect to the net via GPRS using BT on my Laptop and PDA to the Sony Ericsson T-610. I am not sure if there was a mistake but seems I didn't get charged for the data. I am doing expriment of these by browsing the net using the above method and raking up like 20 Mb in data usage, but T-Mobile still says my bill is $ 0(!)

Go figures...

Hmmm.... interesting. Let us know what happens in another month! As I'm thinking about this, T-Zones (using WAP browser) technically uses GPRS to connect. The only difference between T-Zones unlimited and the unlimited data access we're talking about is really the support for allowing an external device to link to your phone. Otherwise, they're both in essence offering unlimited GPRS access.

Is T-Mo even technically capable of determining (without error) if a GPRS connection is being used via the phone or via an external BT connection?

Not precisely. T-Zones is only supposed to give you access to the "wap.voicestream.com" APN (as opposed to "internet2.voicestream.com" or "internet3.voicestream.com"), which doesn't let you get out to general Internet sites. It sounds more like lanwarrior was misconfigured to his benefit.

That's what I was thinking. T-Mobile maybe made a mistake in setting up my account. BUt they didn't setup the settings on the phone, I did.

There is a website that allows automatic settings for both T-Zones and t-Mobile Internet. Once you enter your phone number, 2 SMS will be sent and it will be saved as "Data Communication" settings. So I got both T-Zones WAP settings AND T-Mobile GPRS Data settings.

I only sign up for the $ 39.99 plan PLUS Unlimited T-Zone. Does this comes with a Data plan? T-Mobile say it doesn't, but I am not sure if everyone experiencing the same thing.

Now I stop using the wireless DATA since I have gone through 30 MB worth of data and waiting what my bill will look like. As of today, T-Mobile still reported as $ 0 (same on the online bill).

It has nothing to do with that. With unlimited T-Zones, you shouldn't be able to set up the second APN. It just shouldn't work.

Good call. Sounds like you've beat the system, but it doesn't hurt to wait and make sure. ;)
