I really like my SanDisk low power Wireless LAN Card, so I'm expecting the new combo card to be just as great. I can't find any pricing information, but SanDisk's regular WLAN card lists for $99.99, so something in the $150 - $200 range is probably what's in store for the combo card.

Single slot solution - can be used as memory card or Wi-Fi card to store and move files
I hope that doesn't imply that you can't use the card for both storage and WiFi at the same time. That seems like it would be a strange restriction, but I'd like to make sure about it.

This is a great idea....but looks like the length of it will render most cases useless. I'm of the put memory in and leave it category. :?

This won't be for me. My Axim also has an SD slot, besides the CF slot. I already have a Netgear CF 802.11b card, and will NEVER buy another SanDisk product after the failures (note that is plural) of their 128mb SD cards. If they had just admitted they had a bad batch AND replaced them with a good batch, the situation might be different. Maybe PNY will come out with a nice combo card for the people that want one.

No, I'm not implying anything, since I haven't used one yet. I am assuming that you can use both functionalities at the same time.

This is all well and good, but I'm still waiting for the SD version of this.

Oh, I knew that you weren't implying that, Brad. I visited the SanDisk site, and the text you posted is the same text as on their product page.

I just wanted to point out a potential red flag, because I'm concerned with the use of "or" instead of "and" there. It can be an Inclusive OR, meaning both can be used at once, or an Exclusive OR, meaning one but not both. (Reading that precisely is part of my programming training combined with my natural skepticism. :-))

I received a PC Connection catalog yesterday and it has this card for $129.95 with memory and $89.95 without memory.

My hats off to sandisk this is a simple but very innovative solution. Definately smart. So how about a memory, bluetooth, wifi card. Then just keep your old Ipaq and call it a new one. Anyways this is cool. Enjoy people that have compact type 2 i still get to enjoy a non-SDIO slot.

Sweet! I guess I should start begging my wife for the money for it now... :)

Very Off-Topic, but why is it everywhere I read on this site, the women (wives) are in charge of the financial situation of the household?

I would think, after reading statistics and watching friends' families that the man would be in charge of the financial income of the household.

Even if are a geek, and you spend "x" amount of money each month, I would make a good prediction you would still be in control of the financial situation.

Sorry for the off-topiic post, but its really bothering me. ;)

Ouch!

What's wrong with equal financial control?

The Sandisk page provides very few information about the card. Here are some of the questions that I have:

How much power does it use?
Is it a CF type I or a type II? (We poor Jornada owners :()

PC Connection catalog shows it as a CF Type I, there are no power specs on it other than,

"Battery-optimized low-power design"

Frankly, I'm not entirely sure how it happened. When I was single I managed my own finances and did a respectible job.

I think the most likely reason is, letting her be in charge keeps her happy. And keeping her happy lets me remain happy.

As comedian Jeff Foxworthy once said, "If she ain't happy, you ain't happy. And if she ain't happy long enough, you'll be unhappy with half your stuff."

"Ouch!

Nothing is wrong with it, I just assumed from the average family and with my family, the husband, aka. male dominant figure, is the one who controls the income management and financial situations within the households. Obviously there could be, and most probably are many families in which the wife controls the finances and financial assets of the household. I was just peculiar to find out why PPCT was so much of the latter type.

As comedian Jeff Foxworthy once said, "If she ain't happy, you ain't happy. And if she ain't happy long enough, you'll be unhappy with half your stuff."

I agree. Good quote that was brought up.

Shouldn't you be equally concerned if it had just said AND instead of AND/OR because AND can suggest that WiFi cannot be turned off and would therefore be a constant drain on battery life?

I'm waiting for the wireless with Mini-SD slot models. Once you put that thing in, you're kinda stuck. If you switch cards, it would be nice to keep your memory as well.

Ultimately, I don't think will be a big seller given todays landscape where MOST PocketPCs with a CF slot also have a SD slot. I could imagine a need for Wi-Fi AND CF, but most of the new PocketPCs (2003 models) appear to be shipping with standard Bluetooth.

I'm waiting for the SD version of this card w/ 256 MB storage. Yummm.

Oh, and my girlfriend says I can buy all the gadgets I want, because I can afford them. And, oh yeah, she gets the hand-me-downs. Heh.

Actually, no, I wasn't worried about that. I want to be able to use my WiFi connection and memory at the same time, but I never turn my current WiFi card off.

However, that's a good question to ask, too.

well, in most relationships, one would hope that the man and woman are both equal, neither one dominant, but that's a whole other can of worms.

however, in terms of practicality - heh - the wives and girlfriends might serve as a check/balance cause the fellas might wanna spend all their ready cash on real cool toys!

admit it guys, you see a new ppc or accessory and your eyes glaze over. one second later, you're reaching for your wallet, and that's when you remember that it is in your wive's purse!

i'm a girl but, frankly sometimes, i need a money-controlling wife myself when i am drooling over stuff and shouldn't be spending money. two times now, when i've been massively short of cash, i have bought a bag worth hundreds of dollars. of course, one was from RoadWired.

Me, too. It doesn't help that I own the business and can write most of it off. He just rolls his eye and tells me a geek (like he isn't).

One of the guys here at work insists that I used to be a man because my purse is full of gadgets and gadget accessories:

- wireless card
- ethernet card
- Modem
- telephone cord
- cat 5 cord
- CF & SD cards of all sizes
- cell phone
- cell phone/PPC connector
- Extra sleeve
- USB memory key
- small flash light
- PC screw driver
- earphones
- then we get to the smart girl* makeup and toothbrush and the normal girlie purse things.
