Hi, I am going to need to buy something that allows me to recharge my h1910 when I am away from a power outlet. I was looking at the emergency 9V charger from Seidio, but other then being totally expensive in my opinion, it doesn't really charge my pocket pc, it only is an emergency device.

Now I saw this one here:

Anyone using something like that? Can you use it with rechargables only, or with the store bought alkalines? Is there any risk of damaging the device when not used properly?

Thanks for any advice!

Karin

Check out this link. I got this a while ago and I am meaning to do this, but haven't had the time.

You can't be serious!! 8O Me???? Building something like that??? If you want to make sure that I'm not going to blow something up by mistake, you better don't give me any cables and a soldering iron!! ;)

Seriously, I don't think I could do it. And if, it would probably fall apart on the first use. No, I'd rather like to buy it somewhere. The one at http://www.pc-mobile.net looks like a nice one.

Just wondering if there are some reviews, and what the restrictions are...

I've used one for a Casio E125. I never bothered with rechargeable batteries because it would involve carrying another plug. Using 4 AA batteries, you can expect 2-4 hours of running time.

I found that if you plug it in while your PDA is fuly charged it will drain the extender first. This is a good thing beacause to fully recharge your PDA will take 3-4 hours.

If you buy from a quality vendor, you should have no problems.

I'm also thinking of buying one. This one (http://www.ppcbatteryextender.coinc.biz/) can use normal store bought alkalines. I haven't tried it though.

I don't see one for the Ipaq, though. I checked at Ebay, and there is none listed for Ipaq. :? Hmmmm....

YOu might want to double check this with others but I believe the 1910 uses the same charging plug as the 38xx/39xx series. I know it can't use the same keyboard because they are serial but you should be able to use any of these devices that are marked for the 38/39xx.

Yes, I know, but there is NO Ipaq device available at the site. No 38XX, no 36XX, none. Like I said: :? Hmmmmm...

What about this ebay shop (http://search.stores.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&store=PDA+Accessories&colorid=6&sid=14231451&fp=0&from=R10&st=2&attr_form_changed=0&combine=y&query=ipaq&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&srchdesc=y)?

They have battery extenders for ipaq.[/list]

Now THAT's great!!! :) This is really a good looking battery extender, and the price is right too. PLUS they ship to Canada :D (The other one ended up being $ 33 ($ 20 the device and $ 13 shipping!!!)
The cable has a built in plug for the ppc, so no attachments that can get lost. It is 12", the right length for leaving the extender in your purse or pocket while using the ppc. Hey, great! Thanks for the link!

I guess I am ordering one of those. Hopefully it works. So the plug for the 38XX/39XX devices fits the H1910, right? I keep reading it everywhere, but I never tried it out myself.

Now this is really not related to this topic, but I won the auction for one of those battery extenders, and for whatever reason the seller is reluctant to sell the item to me...

I am new to the whole ebay thing, is it normal that a seller is not interested in selling something to you???

I thought they'd jump at the opportunity to get your money... and that they maybe would delay delivery AFTER getting your $$, but that he doesn't even want me to pay, that's new. Should I be careful, or could it just be a misunderstanding...

Hmmm... :?

I believe the seller is obligated to sell as long as you met the reserve price. But I checked pacficglobal's reviews and found this:
Complaint : Won auction, placed order (#642). Left 2 messages re. payment w/ no response.

Maybe you can try another ebay shop. I planning on buying from this one. (http://www.stores.ebay.com/peakcloudyspdaaccessories/plistings/list/all/dept2/index.html)

There is no picture on it, but from the measurements it's basically the same one, I guess. Kinda the longish form, not the square. The one I want to buy has a 12" cable, but 9" is probably good enough.

I'm going to give him another day, and then I'm going to bid on an item that comes directly from Canada, from a seller that is not so big and maybe has more time at hand to do business. ;)

Let me know how your shopping experience goes...

Ok, I will. What model are you buying for? Because the Battery Extender / Charger iPAQ H 1910 H1910 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3028640231&category=29846) has a picture all the way at the bottom. It looks like the one you wanted.

Hell yeah, that's WAY at the bottom. :D Didn't scroll far enough...

Yeah, it looks the same. But I still want to wait until tomorrow. I want to be a fair buyer. :) Maybe he comes around. Otherwise - tomorrow I'm going to take another plunge in the ebay pool. I guess I can try my luck for 7 dollars and 95 cents. :)

Anyway, have to try it now.

Ok, finally got my battery extender too. It took over a week to ship to Canada. Go figure.

But it's a great one. Works like a charm, is very small and will definitively come in handy many times.

OK Karin... I've been wanting to buy one of these also, but I need to know how long I can play Cropped-Ou... erh, continously use my 1910 with this thing on. :)

It would come in handy when traveling if I can play MP3's for a long time or even watch a movie (let's say, Lord of the Rings for example, which is a long movie) without worrying about draining the battery before the movie is over.

Can you maybe give us your rough estimate of how long you could be able to use it continously with the battery extender?...

Or if you can do a Cropped-Out marathon until you drain the extender and the battery that would be great

Hi Ivan,

Well, I'll have to do a few tests.... a great reason for a Cropped Out marathon! ;) I guess I should do that anyway, considering how low my scores are lately!

I can't help you with measuring playtime if you use it for movies or MP3's, I don't do those with my pocket pc (at least not for hours).

I am planning on using it with rechargeable batteries, because as I recall, the alkalines are too strong for the h1910.

I'll keep you posted. :)

Does 1910 have removable battery? Why not buy a spare battery exactly like the one in the unit, then switch? The flat battery takes up less space than the extender. I have a spare for my ipaq h5455. Only inconvenience is no standalone charger, have to swap battery into the ipaq and put on stand. Still, once you do that, your spare battery holds the charge for a good long time.

does this work with the 2210 as well? Also where can I find a high capacity battery for my 2210?
