I like task-specific software like this. For my needs though, it would have to have been <a href="http://www.buildingwithbaywest.com"><i>Pocket House Builder</i></a>. [Affiliate]

Interesting. I might pick this up, as I'll be looking for a new place a few months from now.

Jason, it's interesting to read about your ordeal with your home!! I was a little worried when we bought our 40 year old home, but now that I think about it, that just means that people had 40 years to make sure stuff was right.. :)

I also like your decorations -- I don't have a keen sense of decorating, I leave that up to my wife -- but I do know what I don't like, and I didn't not like your place. :D

I agree with Jason that highly specific single-task software like this is cool.

Software like this kind of begs for a reduced-price limited license though. Along with the option of just buying it for $19.95, I'd like to be able to pay $9.95 for an extendable 3-month license.

Once the house has been bought, you're probably going to delete the software off the PPC anyway...

Do any of the "single-shot" software makers offer licenses like this?

I may have to give something like this a try, though right now I just make due with a pad and pen. As a Realtor, it's essential to keep track of the properties I've shown clients.

The only reason I can see why I wouldn't use something like this, is because I don't normally have the luxury of telling clients to hold on a second while I enter data. Usually I have to remember everything until I get back to the office.

It sounds interesting. I might have picked it up, but it doesn't seem to have a trial version that you can test out. I've learned the hard way with PPC software... no trial, no sale.

Not that I know of. Tho, I would be willing to consider something like this.

As far as a limited 3 month license for $9.95; as this is developed with VisualCE Enterprise, there's no way to limit the app to die at a certain time. Once you buy and install, you can use it forever if you like. I'd never know if you were violating the license, because I can neither erase your data nor prevent the app from starting. VCE doesn't support features like that.

This took quite a while to develop. I actually did it 3 different times with 3 different data models. Getting this so it would work right, was a real pain. The price of the IDE (VCE Enterprise) is not very conducive to cheap apps.

I also think I am the ONLY developer that is trying to market solutions they develop with this tool. Syware's unlimited, royalty free, runtime license permits this, so... hi-ho, hi-ho!

I've got 2 other VisualCE apps that I've placed on Handango. You can see them here:

">Personal Journal 1.1</a> that sells for $3.99 and <a href="http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&features=0&jid=4C1ED6997884BE74E111F5922338FB3X&advSearch=true&productId=64331&optionId=1_2_2&productType=2&catalog=30&authorName=ParaBasic+Development§ionId=0&platformId=2
">Personal Video Collection 1.1</a> that also sells for $3.99.

Neither have a Trial version. However, both are very affordable.

Please let me know if anyone has any questions.

No, unfortunately it doesn't. I'd have to create and maintain a completely different version of the app. The "trial" is a presentation that explains the app, shows you ALL of the app screens and explains data flow.

I am trying to come up with a limited version; but if I do, that version will likely be a one shot deal. In other words, it will NEVER be updated as new features are added. Snoopsoft Dashboard is like that, and after 2 1/2 years of being on the market (perhaps longer...) I don't know of anyone who downloads and installs the Dashboard trial version. Its become an all or nothing download...much like this.

To me, it doesn't have to be a fully-functional lite version or anything, just something that lets me put it on the PPC and give it a real go. One option would be to make it the same as the release version, but limit it to two or three houses. That way, a potential buyer gets a chance to interact with it and see if it's what they want, but it's not really useful to someone actually going through the act of purchasing a house.

Anyway, that's just a thought. To me, my refusal to buy without trying is just a matter of common sense. I've had too many experiences where I bought something because it sounded good, only to find all the flaws that made it useless afterward. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather live without an app that could be potentially useful than to get stuck one more time, so that's just my rule for myself... if I can't try it, I just don't buy it.

That's not to say I think you should change your system just to accomodate me. It's just a comment to think about as others might feel the same. Best of luck with it, though. I think it's a very useful idea and that lots of people will be interested.

Or you could limit the trial to 1-2 houses' worth of info.
