I agree it's a pretty cool idea, and it's surprising (to me anyway) how many hits you'll get if you Google 'pda' and 'solar power'.

.....but haven't been camping in any remote enough areas to need it in a while, so I just kinda keep it tucked away in the deeper recesses of the gray matter....just in case.

I built a working prototype of a solar powered Palm III a few years ago. It had eight small solar panels mounted on the plastic flip cover. The only problem was that it needed to be left on the windowsill for hours before it would fully recharge the 2 AAA NiCad batteries. It would be interesting to build a similar flip cover for something like the 1910, although I don't think it would be too useful.
