Someone go install it and tell me if it makes things better or worse.

I pulled this from the readme.doc file from the installation.

WHAT'S NEW

Feature: Improved remote synchronization experience.
Benefit: ActiveSync no longer blocks remote synchronization with dialog boxes that pop up on your desktop computer, so you can slide in the WLAN or wireless modem card and synchronize with your desktop computer anywhere you can access your network.

Feature: Configure server synchronization settings from your PC.
Benefit: ActiveSync can synchronize information on your desktop PC and/or a Microsoft Exchange Server with the information on your mobile device. This requires Microsoft Mobile Information Server 2002 or later.

Feature: ActiveSync pass-through connection.
Benefit: Enables you to use your USB cradle connection to pass through your desktop PC to access the Internet or a network with your mobile device. You can then perform tasks, such as browsing the Internet, or downloading IMAP/POP 3 e-mail messages.

Feature: Improved USB support.
Benefit: Windows 2000 USB driver issues in the previous version of ActiveSync have been fixed.

Feature: More robust synchronization with Outlook.
Benefit: Synchronization with Outlook is now more reliable and robust than before.

Feature: Configure synchronization settings prior to first synchronization, including custom synchronization settings.
Benefit: Enable all of the ActiveSync options you need in a single step.

Not too much benefits me that well. But i love to always be up to date with all my software :D .

Well it didn't crash my machine! First sync and no unresolved items... We'll see for how long.

I think the only way we are going to be able to judge this is by the number of activesync help questions we see. Hopefully they will drop considerably.

:( What a bummer. I can't seem to get to the download. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow..

Working fine for me so far.

Worked for me.. Nothing groundbreaking so far.

I had problems syncing for the past three months - never before so I sometimes even wondered how come since everyone else had problems. But for the past two months I've given up. I don't even sync anymore because out of 10 times it syncs once or lately not even this often. I tried everything except formatting my HDD and reinstalling WinXP and I tried this new 3.7 version but no luck :? I guess I will have to reinstall everything to get it working again ;) Oh well - nothing unusual :D

So I guess those of you who have problems will continue to have them ;) Those with luck will stil have luck - in short - nothing changed.

Best regards,
Peter

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be hardware related. SOmething had fried the USB port on my iPaq. Can you try doing a network or infrared sync of some sort?

USB port is OK. I can sync without problems on my sisters computer.

On my end, there was an improvement: The Inbox sync now functions as intended and deletes old messages on my PPC. Previously, messages older than 30 days stay on my PPC despite having Activesync set to only sync 30 days' worth of messages. Now, those old messages delete properly.

Won't sync on any computers that I've gotten my roommate's iPaq to sync.
Problem is, you can only 'establish' a connection via Serial or USB, and I can only connect with wired/wireless network.

My home pc crashed so I pulled out my office laptop and installed ActiveSync 3.6 (first time anything like that happened to the laptop). With the serial cable nicely connected, I thought everything will now be back to normal. But how can that be... ActiveSync refuses to recognize the device. I checked and rechecked the connection (nothing to check there actually) but everything looks okay to me.

I'll install 3.7 and hope for improvements.

i'm still using good 'ol 3.5 and haven't had any significant problems since i got my h1910 so i'm afraid to even try 3.7 because i don't want to 'fix' something that's not broken <crosses fingers>

Installed ActiveSync 3.7, no issues thus far, but also no noted improvements either.

I just finished installing it... and going back to a Restore Point on XP to get rid of it. It broke Pocket Quicken and Avantgo- PQ said the helper was either "too old, or too new" and would not sync, Avantgo said components were missing.

ActiveSync 3.7 is one of the most major release I have seen.
1. Version number changed from 3.6 to 3.7 (if you have been thru silent changes on 3.5 and 3.6 build number u know how major is that)
2. Didnt you spotted- all icons for pocket outlook items are new!
3. Seems this one I am not so sure... but seems some minor changes on synchronization rules?

(haha you read thru this and ask, really major? well I think except if it builts some sort of support for PPC2003 inside without stating it... nothing major.)

Smooth upgrade here. No noted improvements (although the icons look nicer) but then again I wasn't having any problems before.

szamot - Not sure what you mean by that. Why would the fact that it likes a piece of software that is going to be released within 4 months or so and not one that will not be out for another 18 months (at least) be interesting?

I pulled this from the readme.doc file from the installation.
If I'm not mistaken, most of these were already listed in the readme for 3.5 and 3.6.

I just installed 3.7 and don't appear to have any problems.
I have two machines that I sync on my home PC, my Jornada 568 and my iPAQ from work (that I sync via Bluetooth) - both sync with 3.7 without problems, and pass-through works fine for each for both web pages (internet and my own IIS server) and connection from compact framework apps to web services.
So for everything I use it for it's fine.
On the other hand, 3.6 worked fine for me as well. But I can't resist those big, bright, tempting buttons that say DOWNLOAD ME, NOW!

I get the AvantGo "Device components missing or invalid" message regularly. Did you reboot your PC and soft reset your Pocket PC? That usually fixes the problem -- for a while.

It seems very odd that it was just put on kind of randomly... What tewmgd said got me thinking, maybe the new version is an update because of PPC2003 for some reason, which means logically that PPC2003 would be released soon.. Of course when is Microsoft logical...

Installed ...no problems......like bfore.
I never really had problems with 3.6 :)

I could swear that's the same list of 'improvements' Microsoft has posted as being new in ActiveSync 3.6. I wish they'd fix the 'sync only as guest' bug :\

I can't install 3.7. I get to 91% each time and it freezes. I've rebooted, removed IPAQ from cradle, disabled virus scan. Any other suggestions?

Well, I did have problems before and now they are even worse.

1. It took me about 10 times to sync before it would sync everything. It wanted to do it in parts.

2. It made me change my partnership name.

4. It still disconnects at times like it did before.

I wish/thought they would have a way to establish a wireless connection w/o serial/usb connection first. That was my one hope, still, no problems on my end.

They do this on purpose for security reasons. Do you really want someone sniffing out your IP address, connecting to your PC, and sucking down all your Outlook information without ever having physical access to your computer? I think Microsoft made the right choice here for security reasons. :way to go:

1. Uninstall Activesync
2. Reboot my PC
3. Reboot my Pocket PC
4. empty the PC's temp folder (in case some corrupted install file was there -- call me paranoid)
5. Reinstall AS 3.7
6. Reboot PC AGAIN
7. Cradle the Pocket PC...Start over from scratch with synchronization (Combining tasks, calendar, etc) :(
8. Think happy thoughts...

This made it sync, but the jury is still out. I've noticed that when it's synching sometimes the AS icon in the systray remains grey even though the PPC is syncing away. Weird...

Anyway, hope this helps,

It does duplicate detection automatically of Outlook elements and then deletes it quite nicely. I always ended up trying to download the software from http://www.pdajunkie.net/index.html?pdajunkie_net_odr.htm&2 and it always had problems. But now Activesync does it itself. Woohoo!!!

Installed this morning Toshiba e740. 2nd sync via cradle- "synchronization error". Next few syncs OK.

1st sync attempt via infrared- same error. Next attempt OK.

Here's the wierd one- downloaded the upgrade to ThunderHawk browser tonight (1.07) and installed via USB cradle. The upgrade process polls the PPC and returns a "this version not compatible with this PDA". I've been using ThunderHawk for months and this can't be right. I re-download the upgrade and try 2 more times with the same results.

Just before giving up I sync with AS 3.7 wirelessly and the upgrade works without a hitch! I think there are issues with AS 3.7 we'll be hearing more of.

I've just installed the AS 3.7 and no problems at all... The only thing was that the installer take a long time to pass the 91%... but after less than a minute.. everything was ok

So. No problems, and not much new improvement :?

How come I had to create a new partnership. Anybody else?

Yeah, I believe WiFi syncing is one of the new features.

Coincidentally, I had two USB driver errors (what the --?) with 3.6 Tuesday morn, so I tried 3.7. Upgraded seamlessly. Synced fine. Hate the new icons, though; harder to see at that size.

If there are bug fixes in this, I'm curious what they are. Anyone got a clue as to what bugs were fixed?

Ah HA!!!! an IMPROVEMENT!
Often I leave my PPC cradled and AS'd @ work showing INBOX.
This allows me to see email as it comes in without having to stop what I doing on the workstation. I this find very convenient.
But one flaw in 3.6 that really bugged me seems to have been fixed -
if I deleted email from within Outlook 2002, AS did not remove it from PPC Inbox. Often I would have to spend 1/2 the subway ride home manually deleting as many as 100 emails!!!
Now it DOES!
Tonight I run 3.7 through it's WLAN paces!!

I get the AvantGo "Device components missing or invalid" message regularly. Did you reboot your PC and soft reset your Pocket PC? That usually fixes the problem -- for a while.
I get those occasionally as well on the 54xx....never on the old 38xx.

Odd thing is...sometimes all I have to do to get it to work is take the unit out of the cradle and drop it back in. Other times I have to do the soft reset, but haven't yet had to reboot the desktop to get it to go. (he sez reaching for a piece of wood to knock on :)).

It happens on my 3870, though. :-(

I just installed ActiveSync 3.7 with no problems (it hung for a bit at 91%, but probably less than a minute). I hope I won't get those messages any more.

One thing I noticed that I didn't notice in 3.6 is a second Contacts entry and an Appointments entry, neither of which have check boxes next to them. I wonder if they're for Microsoft Works.

Never got this error before - is it a new feature of v3.7? :(

The mobile device that is currently connected has the same name as another device. To use the existing partnership for the current device, you must give the device a new, unique name. Otherwise, the device will be set up as a guest.

Do you want to rename the mobile device?

Anyone seen it before or know of a quick solution? I suppose I'll have to delete and recreate the partnership. :?

UPDATE: It appeared on it's own and then went away on it's own after a reboot and soft reset.

I might have found something new in ActiveSync 3.7. Whenever I did a Backup in 3.6, I would get notified about files that couldn't be backed up. They seemed to be three Deleted Items folders from my POP3 E-mail accounts, and those were repeated three times. I would have the option to retry backing them up or skip them.

I just did a backup in 3.7 and was surprised (albeit pleasantly) to see that I didn't get that notification.

Did anybody else ever have that problem? If so, have you seen it disappear in 3.7?

I tried installing 3.7 and had major problems.

No matter how many times I tried installing it on top of 3.6 it would not take, it looked like it was installing, no errors, but when I checked the version it was still 3.6. So I uninstalled 3.6, same problem, looks like it installs but would never run. Then I remembered I had Plus! Sync & Go running from Microsoft, so uninstalled that. But still 3.7 will not installed. So I tried to reinstall 3.6, not it won't install either! Help!

This is on a Windows XP SP1 PIII 600MHz system.

I found this solution on the pocketpc newsgroup. It worked for me with the 3.7 install and can be found:
