<a href="http://www.laridian.com/default.asp?ref=apwzwtzws">http://www.laridian.com/default.asp?ref=apwzwtzws</a><br /><br />Laridian has a lot of updates this morning at their site. First up is the <a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LBKAMP001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">Amplified Bible</a>. "The Amplified Bible is a translation that, by using synonyms and definitions, both explains and expands the meaning of words in the text. It does this by placing amplification in parentheses and brackets after key words or phrases. This unique system of translation allows you to more completely grasp the meaning of the words as they were understood in the original languages. Through amplification, you will gain a better understanding of what the Hebrew and Greek listener instinctively understood (as a matter of course)." You can see a sample of this in the image below. It is $14.99 and requires 2,920KB of storage space.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20030505-laridianamplified.gif" /><br /><br />Other new additions to the Laridian library include:<br />• <a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LBKRSV001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">Revised Standard Version</a> - $4.99 and requres 2,120KB of storage space.<br />• <a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LBKWEB001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">World English Bible</a> - <b>Free</b> and requires 2,210KB of storage space.<br />• <a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LBKASV001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">American Standard Version</a> - <b>Free</b> and requires 2,200KB of storage space.<br />• <a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LBKDNT001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">Darby's New Translation</a> - <b>Free</b> and requires 2,700KB of storage space.<br />• <a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LBKYLT001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">Young's Literal Translation</a> - <b>Free</b> and requires 2,180KB of storage space.<br />• <a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LDRLRP001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">Laridian Reading Plan</a> for the <a href="http://www.laridian.com/ce/catdailyreader.asp?ref=apwzwtzws">Daily Reader</a> program - Free and requires 212KB of storage space.<br />• <a href="http://www.laridiansales.com/order/productpages/LDRMAE001.asp?order_platform=ce&ring=apwzwtzws">Morning and Evening</a> readings for the <a href="http://www.laridian.com/ce/catdailyreader.asp?ref=apwzwtzws">Daily Reader</a> program - Free and requires 212KB of storage space.<br /><br /><br />Note that you will probably need to download an updated Pocket Bible from your library if you are a returning customer to work with some of these versions. All links above are affiliate links. You can bypass them if you desire by going to <a href="http://www.laridian.com">this link</a>. This is the excuse I've been looking for folks. 512MB SD card is being ordered! :way to go:

I would have been the king of Bible study academia if I'd had these kinds of tools when I was in seminary. (I was tempted to say that I'd have given my left **expletive deleted and SOOOO inappropriate!)

The WEB and literal translations are going to be so helpful.

Better go get them before the bandwidth battle begins.

You aren't kidding, their site has been slow all morning. They also just released version 3.0 of MyBible for Palm devices which supposedly has Hi-Res+ support for devices like my CLIE NX70V.

I was just asked to become an elder at my church and can't wait to install some more of these AWESOME resources on my devices.

....and we've (Laridian fans) officially killed their site.

Congrats Palmsolo on the nomination/appointment!

8O Downloaded all the freebies in addition to a few new updates to the existing readers/Bibles...I have so many Bible translations and resources on my PDA that if I had to carry them all as books, I would need a wheelbarrow/waggon...Now all I need is for Laridian to add highlighting to the Bible reader and allow you to create your own reading plans for the Daily Reader and I'm set. Congrats palmsolo on your promotion. That's a big increase in responsibility w/i the church. :)

Heh! Enjoy that 512MB -- I love my Lexar 512MB card. You can never go back to smaller capacities.

acollet, the funny thing is that I use my CLIE NX70V for most PDA functions because the large, incredible display just appeals to me. I use my Pocket PC primarily for the Laridian Bibles and references and load them into the ROM of my Pocket PC devices as soon as I get them. I am in a holding pattern waiting for the new iPaq 2200 and am seriously missing the Pocket PC version of Pocket Bible.

I just received a sample copy of the new MyBible 3.0 version to review for PDAGeek and hope it will adequately fulfill the gap until the 2200 comes out.

Ed and CESkins, thanks for the words of encouragement. I am still praying about accepting the position, but feel strongly this is where the Lord is leading me. We just started this church about a year and a half ago and I will be the first elder. It is a lot of responsibility and I am humbled by the request. I feel I meet all the qualififcations as discussed in 1 Timothy 3:2 and Titus 1:6 and want to be assured that the decision is based on the Lord's approval.

I'm glad to hear this, and that you're nominated for the position! I don't know you, but I get a good feeling when I read that you're looking to the Word of God as your standard of qualification and seeking His will... He won't disappoint!!! I'll pray for you tonight. It is a heavy burden and responsibility, but if you keep your eyes on Jesus, the rewards are so great!!!

Good ideas. I especially agree with the highlighting.

The other feature I want is when in dual window mode the ability to quickly toggle back and forth to a full screen view of one of the windows without having to turn off the two book mode.

FYI, there is multiple color highlighting available, 6 colors, in Laridian's MyBible 3 software for Palm devices. I too would like to see the ability to make one book full screen without having to go through the menu to turn off two books.

I sent these in a long time ago as a suggestion and figured I'd share them since others here are discussing them.

Dual Book View - Dual Windows

Notice the little window buttons inthe upper right to quickly toggle between dual and single window view.

Tabs for books with new Synchronize icon

The tab view would have settings so if you have tons of books, you could limit the tabs to the most commonly used ones. I guess we'll see sometime in the future if any of these or similar usability requests are implemented. :)

Hopefully Craig will be adding the same feature to PocketBible v3. Wonder when it will be released?...perhaps a v3 is due around the time of the new OS launch...perhaps sooner. I will pray that it includes highlighting. :) What would also be cool is to have an option to automatically append a note to any highlighted verse. Thus, after you finish highlighting a note window would pop-up to allow entry for your comments. This of course could be turned off under the setting option.

Ed those are great interface suggestions for implementing rapid switching between dual book/single book view. I wonder if it is possibly to auto-synchronize the two books...i.e. when you scroll in one book the other scrolls so that the verses remain in sync (thus you won't need to manually sync the two books). PocketBible would have to keep track of the topmost chap+verse in the window being scrolled and make sure that chap+verse appears at the top of the second window. Scrolling in each window would have to be by verse rather than by line to enable easy syncing of the two views. I suspect that this is do-able but whether it would be easy with the current format used for the Bibles only Craig would know.
