Is this saying what I think it's saying?...

Please note, the following products are not eligible for this offer:
...
- Visual Studio .NET 2003 product purchased as a competitive upgrade
- Visual Studio .NET 2003 acquired as a Direct Upgrade for full packaged product customers or a free license grant for eligible volume customers of Visual Studio .NET 2002
...

Why couldn't this have been answered clearly before? It wasn't like several of us didn't speculate about this earlier (not to mention the fact that there's a barrel-full of MVPs here and MS reps patrol here).

Microsoft also gives away free ViewSonic V37 Pocket PCs (https://vstudio.joleschgroup.com/) to everyone (in North America)
Why do they always discriminate against those of us who live in Europe?

I'm pretty sure that all of what I've read previously about the free Pocket PC offer has been for the full product only. That having been said you can upgrade VS 2002 for $29 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/howtobuy/upgrade/vstudio03/default.aspx)- so the money you save compared to buying a regular version upgrade can be put towards a Pocket PC if you so wish.

Its a shame that a lot of these offers are north america only. I can understand that some offers may not be practical to offer world-wide where language, power requirements or technologies differ but it would be nice to see other subsidiaries doing their own special offers...

I placed my order as well, and the site was secure (using IE 6 on XP.)

I started to place my order, noticed that it wasn't secure, and went to change the URL manually. Needless to say, it screwed up my order. :( However, when I worked my way back in, the page was then secure.

So I think the difference was just time. Looks like they just forgot to set it up.

I just got two email order confirmations because the first "Submit" timed-out, so I did a BACK and SUBMIT again - so off I go to cancel one of them... But the 877 number has been giving me a fast busy for over an hour, just not having any luck today :(

That quote is taken from the front page, and according to that, we are not eligable. However, if you click the proof of purchase link, Then select VS.Net 2003, and Retail location. You are asked to select a license type. The options here being: "Full Version", and "Upgrade from Visual Studio 6.0 or Later"

So what's "later". I would say that Later means VS.NET 2002. What else is there??

At the bottom of the front page it says:

Me too, though I guess I'll have to renew my subscription at this point to be eligible. Or can I just pay the $29 upgrade fee and be eligible for the V37? Or can I simply download the VS .NET 2003 from the MSDN site and be eligible?

(OK, I know that last one is really pushing it :D )

I'm an MSDN Universal subscriber, but when I went to register and it asked for a product ID, it said it was invalid or incomplete.

I used the product id displayed in help for Visual Studio.NET v7.1.3088 for VB.NET. Is this the right one for us MSDNers, or is there another somewhere?

Thanks for any tips..

My upgrade is backordered ?!?!?!

Can someone else verify that I'm not alone on this? If you've ordered the $29 upgrade, Microsoft has sent you an email, click the status link, and then click on the line item.

Mine says it's backordered and expected to ship on May 19. :(

what's the difference between V35 and V37.

thanks.

It has the PXA255 processor which is the newer, faster X-Scale processor. That may not necessarily mean that Viewsonic bumped up the bus speed but I sure hope they are exploiting the capabilities of the chip.

I was able to input mine just fine. I've got my printed coupon sitting here in front of me, waiting to be taken over to the our mail room. I too used the product ID for VB.net, however mine is the same for VB.NET, C#.NET, C++.NET, and J#.NET.

I finally figured out what the problem is. If you select MSDN Universal, it is expecting the product ID for VS Enterprise Architect, but I only needed and downloaded Professional which it didn't think qualified! I figured it out by choosing that I have MSDN Professional and having my code work so now I'm downloading and installing Enterprise Architect because I want to be sure that they don't disqualify me for picking the wrong subscription level

Anyway, hope that helps the rest of you. I also finally got through the the phone number listed, but they just said they would call me back and I don't want to lose out on the opportunity by having this run out and I already have to wait for the stupid download to finish. All because some developer couldn't code the validation properly!! :devilboy:

what are the chances of getting a viewsonic at that time?

looks like close to zero.

Speaking about proper validation, it took me awhile to submit my registration information. All I would get is that a required piece of information was missing (which it wasn't) or that a piece of information was incorrect. Of course it wouldn't point me to the offending field. Turns out they wouldn't accept my e-mail address because it contains a period in the name portion of the address. Luckily I had a secondary address I could use without the period...

Aroma,

How did you get your product ID to work (being an MSDN subscriber)? did you use something other than the visual studio.net product ID?

Aroma/Sweetpete,

Thanks, I selected the level down from Universal and my VB.NET enterprise # worked. I never installed architect, since i didn't need the 'fat'. i guess their webform validation is a little silly.

cheers,

Attach the original sales receipt for the eligible product you just acquired (see Product Description below for your reference).

OK, if I'm already an MSDN subscriber, does this mean I need my original MSDN receipt, or do I need a receipt for the VS.NET 2003 download, or are current subscribers not elligible?

Good question. This stuff is horribly unclear if you're an MSDN subscriber. I've had the same problems the other folks have reported with MSDN Universal. I've got VS.NET Enterprise Architect installed (after about 2 hours of uninstalling the final beta), but the codes I get STILL don't work. I tried indicating "Professional" MSDN subscription (even though we have Universal). No luck. This bites. Thanks for a well-run promotion, MS! (no flames from the cheerleaders, please)

I've got my docs together (an invoice as my original receipt for MSDN), but before putting anything in the mail I sent an email asking for clarification of the requirements. I'm supposed to hear an answer within 48 hours. I'll post back on Monday or Tuesday with the answers if I get any.

I received a confirmation email today that said:

Jimmy,

(1) If you were able to generate a coupon, the process was acceptable.

(2) The original corporate invoice would be acceptable proof of purchase in place of an original sales receipt.

Thank you for your inquiry.

So, looks like I'll be sending my stuff off on Monday then watching the mail for the next 8-12 weeks. :D

As encouragement for all those who had trouble with the registration, I'll report that I received confirmation via email today that my V37 has been ordered. :multi: As you may recall (or not) I am an MSDN subscriber and simply downloaded VS.NET 2003 to get this deal, although I had trouble getting my Universal Subscription to work in the web page and used a MSDN Professional selection instead.

Pretty cool 8) - a $300 Pocket PC for free (not even any shipping charges!) with CF.NET in ROM. It couldn't have happened at a better time - my e740 has become horribly unreliable (the battery keeps draining instantaneously).

Another update: I too have received confirmation from MS that my V37 is on order. I'm an MSDN Universal Sub who downloaded VS.NET from the MSDN site. (Of course I've also received notification that the scheduled shipped date of the V37 is 6/2/2003... I guess I shouldn't complain, since it is 100% FREE!) ;)
