http://www.trancreative.com/Product.aspx?id=1

The guys over at TranCreative have released a free upgrade to v2.2, and for a limited time, you can get the add-on BioScan module for free. This apparently enables the use of the biometric scanner with the Nice Start password screen. Cool!

Very cool! That might actually give me a reason to use my 5450...

I have both. :D There's just something that utterly bores me about the 5450 though...even though it has WiFi and Bluetooth built-in, it looks like the same old iPAQ I've had for years, so I don't find it exciting. The Dell is new and cool! 8) Now the 1910, there's an exciting device! Too bad it's crippled for wireless access...

Hmm. I'll take it off your hands then... at no cost to you! I'll even pay shipping.

In a thread (http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=b0eea403e2270eb63fd914f25cc933ee&threadid=77473) on Brighthand, some people seem to think it improves recognition, reducing both palse positives and false negatives. I'd have thought it would just be skinning the interface and leaving the functionality alone.

I'll give it a try...

Well, he's tying into the API with his appplication, and it's possible that his implementation is "cleaner" than what HP did. Go TransCreative!

Yes but the thread is based on a enigmatic post and then taken from there. Looks like speculation on top of speculation atm.

Maybe next time I'll actually install and try it before I open my mouth! It does have it's own registration process and fingerprint storage at least. Wouldn't be surprised if the recognition was rewritten too. Odd enough for an application that is mostly about style, the biometric registration part doesn't look as slick as HP's.

Based on the huge statistical sample of trying it just three times, I can tell you it let me in. :)

This looks coll. Could not see any compatibility info for XDA. Anyone have any idea if this guy works well on the O2 XDA?
Thanks

I used it on my XDA for a while - it works quite well. No fingerprint scanning of course. ;-)

I've been using this upgrade to Nice Start, including the biometric module, for a few days now, and I can confidently say that the fingreprint reader is faster and more accurate than the HP one. I toyed around with the biometric feature when I got my h5455, but soon after disabled it. I'm now using it again with the Nice Start option. I even recorded my left thumb sliging across the scanner in a sideways-diagonal fashion, so I can simply slide my thumb across it with my left hand in it's natural position while holding the iPaq.

I like it, works great.

Yep. With Nice Start the fingerprint reader works really well. A lot, lot better than the hp one. Fast and reliable. Ten points for Transcreative.

Transcreative has already won me over as a rock-solid development house. Check out their other products if this impresses. Aside from NiceStart, they've got IMO the best freeware task manager available in Magic Button and they have great conversion utilities and dictionary tools.

Great company!
