Okay, I have finally decided to download a remote control app to my iPAQ 3835 and was wondering what you the faithful of PPCThoughts thought of the ones I've been pondering.

Do you have links? I am also looking for remote control software.

I take it you missed the "Remote controller" thread (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10765) a few days ago. Are you aware of UltraMote (http://www.ultramote.com) and Total Remote (http://www.griffintechnology.com/griffinmobile/totalremote/index.html)?

Steve

P.S. Please don't post long links "naked". The board software doesn't wrap them, and it resets the margins for the whole page, forcing horizontal scrolling. Use the URL tags, like this:

[url=http://www.handandgo.com/PlatformSoftwareSection.jsp?siteId=1&jid=7EE2B26E5EB14X14FC38D12427EF7XX7&platformId=2&special=&bySection=1&sectionId=1535&catalog=30&title=TV]
Handango TV Software
[/url]

The above looks like the following when posted:

Handango TV Software

See how much nicer that is? :-)

I used to use a jornada 568, and tried tv remote controller from pdawin. I recently bought an ipaq 3970 with the nevo remote software built in, and I am not very impressed with the range of the ipaq for having consumer infrared instead of irda. I tried version one from pdawin and the range was poor. I don't know what they did with the program in later versions, but I was getting more than 20 feet out of my jornada, which is more than I can say for the ipaq.

I didn't care for the layout of tv remote controller, but there is a site you can go to and download sets of skins that other people have created or you can download the software and create your own skins.
I didn't want to take the time to learn to make my own, and no one one the site had a setup of equipment close enough to mine that I wouldn't have had to do a lot of direct button mapping from the original remote.
But download a demo of it and try it out. I think you'll be impressed with the range.

I tried UniversalRemoteCE and it worked well for my Toshiba DVD player and Panasonic TV. The good thing is that it has a whole ton of remote code programmed in it with a small file footprint. (Trial Dowload was just 150k! 8O )

My iPaq 5455 comes with the Nevo Remote software. Has anyone been using it? If there's something better, I sure would like to know...

[LONG URLS SNIPPED]
They look nearly identical! Did you copy & paste? :D

So many people mess up the boards with long URLs that I keep a boilerplate rant in my clipboard manager. When I see a long URL, I paste the boilerplate in a post as a PS, then take the offending URL and copy it to the boilerplate and come up with a short, descriptive phrase.

If you search through the boards, I bet you'll find many more of those, all very similar. :-) It would be really nice if those posting long URLs would edit their post and use my suggestion. Then I would edit my post to remove my suggestion and a lot less horizontal scrolling would be needed. In fact, I think I'll add that suggestion to my boilerplate. :-)

Which remote software has support for the most devices?

I suggest you try the UniversalRemoteCE, because it has support for a ton of devices, but doesn't have a large file footprint (download was just 150k! 8O )
