No, that's not a new feature we added - we have a strange bug that causes the centre column to, well, disappear. We're working on a fix, but if you come to the site and can't see this message, that's why.

Hmmm. Here in New Zealand, Australia and the UK it'll be centre. And defence, and customise... I guess Jason got some British education?

When I first moved here and asked to the car dealer about the "trunk", he replied "Ah, you mean the boot?" :?

...probably a Canadian education. But I think that qualifies as a British Commonwealth education. :)

...no, a trunk is a trunk in Canada too. :)

Cheers.

Yep, but in New Zealand and Australia a trunk is not the same as boot (car wise) 8O

Because I had strong American influence while learning English, language differences are quite amusing (even after six years living here). And this is not saying anything about accent... But this is going OT :worried:

aha! another way to spot a non-american!!!

usually it's the spelling....'s' instead of 'z'.

but signing "cheers", "hip hip", "ta ta" at the bottom also seems a dead giveaway.

another more subtle one is addressing the addressee by name - americans almost will never do it...though i try to counter this as much as i can.

It really irks me how some people spell words differently, and when called upon, they merely claim that their way is more correct than the commonly accepted way... But, as Mr. Dunn makes almost 12 posts per day, I've learned to deal with it.

Uhh... you realize he's spelling it the way the originators of English did, and we're the ones that are messed up? ;)

The simple truth is that each writer on this site posts in their own version of the English language, and we don't don't try to quash that (other than correcting obvious grammatical errors). I am Canadian, I spell words in Canadian English. Janak is American, and he spells in American English. Some of our review team are from the UK, and use unique words like "whilist" - and we don't edit them out. Each variation of the language adds colour (color) to the writing.

No offense, but you should step out of your American Ethno-centrism and understand that the "common spelling" you're referring to differs based on where you're sitting. It's equally irritating to have my spelling "corrected" by people who assume I'm American, but I've gotten used to that by now...

Indeed. When I was in Thailand my wife wrote instructions for some Americans who had asked for instructions on how to use their European style washing machines. One of the ladies asked for the instructions in soft copy and shortly after told my wife that she had ‘corrected’ the spelling, which did not go down well.

 Must.... resist.... urge.... to flame....

I have no problem with different spellings for words. What I do have a problem with is the expression of superiority of the spelling of the word. I don't like being told that I'm uncivilized because I spell the word different than the "civilized" way. I suppose that it wasn't my comment about different spellings but rather the comment about common acceptance of word spellings that got everyone's feathers ruffled.

I never make grammatical errors. I write Dutch English. But I do get edited. ;)

I know this, but I thought that I would just say something about it. I didn't mean to offend anyone. I just thought the way Jason spelled centre (center) funny/different. But like Jason said, each writer has their own style of writing. One way isn't better than the other. Sorry to take this off topic....

But back on topic, I did notice the center column missing but only for a second. I do like the new changes that the PPC Thoughts team is implementing, such as the "Top Products." Keep up the good work.

You'll notice I used a smiley there () - I was only kidding about it being the "civilized" way to spell it, and the only reason I even gave a response was because I was being "corrected". You gotta' learn to take a gentle prod at this site!

Do you mean the area on the frontpage where the admin posts normally show? :|

I know, but I felt the the topic was getting out of hand so I thought that I would just set the record straight that I was just kidding.
