WIMR? (Where Is My Ram?)

I used it this week and found several MP3 files that had made it into my PIE cache. 8O <br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20030330-wimr.gif" /><br /><br />Nothing new in this if you already have it, but it is a great freebie I don't recall seeing mentioned on the front page. It comes in a svelt 34K package and no fancy installer or even a .CAB file. Just download the .EXE for your processor (ARM/X-Scale, MIPS or SH3) and drop it in the Program Files folder of your Pocket PC. Then copy it and "paste shortcut" in your Windows|Start Menu somewhere. :way to go:

ya... it's a great program. I used it for a long while until I purchased Resco... i really didn't see a use for it as I could see the file size already and auto arange accordingly...

but it's still pretty usefull to have around.

Yeah it is a great program. Like Heov my usage of the program dropped once I installed resco, but I still use it when I want to see how big a directory is. I've been using wimr for a while and I find it to be a great addition to the ppc, especially if you are trying to claim every bit of ram space possible.

Hey thanks for putting this up! I also downloaded the Coin Flip program, as I am an inveterate coin flipper. (Just one more thing to add to the list of what my Pocket PC can do!)

I use Resco Explorer too and don't see how that replaces WIMR?. WIMR just gives you a snapshot of folder sizes and allows you to drill down and clean out garbage. Resco gives you no clue you have a 2MB file in \windows\temporary internet files\q189234\

I use wimr after every application install to view the program's space consumption and decide whether to move to SD card or File Store or leave in Programs. The space hogs are graphically displayed at a glance.

Yup, this is a great app! I use it all the time to keep an eye on the RAM hogs...

This is really helpful for some of us who are trying to keep thier PPC free of any other commercial software. I really think about 90% of PPC and Palm apps are way overpriced. I better stop myself before I start ranting on that.

I wish I knew about this app before I did a hard reset to reinstall my Axim. I had about 10mb of ram that I could not find the files to (yes, I did account for the PIE cache and Avantgo. I was in shock that my PIE cache folder is at 8mb concidering how little web browsing I really do. Oh well, now its part of my PPC install list.

Just thought to let you guys know that FolderSize (http://www.dooblo.com/foldersize) does all that WIMR does plus a few extras (one-click deleting of wasted temporary space etc.).

But, it is NOT a freeware (it costs $5.99).

That's what I use. I used to use WIMR myself. Both are great options IMO.

Agreed. Sure you can look at folder properties to see how much total is stored, but you can't get an overall snapshot of all of your folders at one glance the way you can with either WIMR or FolderSize. They work especially well when you want to clear out space and need to locate bloated folders in a hurry.

A simple little app that just helped me find about .5 Mb of stuff that was left behind or not needed. Since I only have 16 Mb to begin with finding .5Mb is a big deal. Thanks for pointing this app out 8)

Sorry for the silly question :oops: , but how can you tell which version processor you need to download: arms, mips, or sh3? I have the Axim 400 mhz? My system info file indicates the Intel PXA250 400 MHZ B2, but that doesn't help me.

ARM, all the PPC2002 devices use the ARM processor, or an XScale that runs ARM code as yours does.
