Some months back (October, I think), there was some, occasionally heated, discussion of Microsoft's decision not to release the XP Media Center OS for sale as a stand alone item. Until recently, the only way you could get the OS was to buy it installed on a new PC. Now, you can get the OS without the hardware. The catch is that you have to have an MSDN Universal subscription. If you have the MSDN subscription, you can download the OS today.

I want MS to sell the XP Media Edition in a box and include w/ the OS the nifty XP remote like the OEM Media Edition systems do.

you could get the ATI remote, after buying xp media edition.
