How do I uninstall it? I've tried the remove programs and through control panel on my desktop (which it says to do afterwards) but still no luck.

How do I get it to go away?

Sounds like you may have to do a soft-reset and then uninstall again. Make sure before you do that you've unchecked it from your settings | today control panel items. If that doesn't work, try the Remover software package (freeware). But try the other solution first.
