I installed one of the 1.2 beta versions of WisBar (www.pelmarinc.com) on my Axim a few weeks ago, and it hard-resetted shortly thereafter. I don't feel like I've established a 100% cause/effect relationship there by any means, but I've been running without WisBar since then just in case. Now, though, the delay on the built-in task switcher is just too much, and I want my "Close" button back. :) Is anyone using WisBar 1.2 beta 4 - the latest version from their web site - on their Axim? Any known issues?

You should try pocket plus. It works great at closing programs and does a whole lot more!

I have been using it since I got my Axim with no problems, that has been about a month and a half.

Sure, if it was free.

I don't use reminders or alarms or want multiple IE windows, etc. Just a quick and easy way to close apps that doesn't cost me anything. WisBar is currently the best option I've encountered, assuming it doesn't have an incompatibility with the Axim, of course.

Windwalker, do you also have the Dell task switcher running? I'm wondering if that might have been what screwed things up for me - maybe they both are trying to access the same file/bit of code/whatever.

I noticed the Dell Switcher really gives a huge performance hit to the Axim. Without it running, my PPC runs much snappier. Frankly, I haven't used it for any length of time, and even though it's free, I prefer Pocketplus even if only for the close function...

Just my $0.02.

So you will spend over 300 dollars on hardware because of what it will do, but you wont spend 10 bucks on a program that does not only what you want, but will also do several other things that should have been included in the OS? :?:
Try it out, there is a demo... if you like it think of it this way... what else are you going to do with ten dollars???
You can't even take a date to McDonalds for that much!

Seriously, if you don’t want to try pocket plus (which I STILL highly recommend :rock on dude!: ) you might want to try out this.

It is a free program called Magic Button. It is designed to close apps. I haven’t tried it but have seen it mentioned several times in different forums.

Magic Button works very well on the Axim. You can also try Pocket Blinds from Stardock (http://www.stardock.com).

I'll say it again - I don't want any functionality except the Close button. It makes no sense to pay any amount of money if I can get that functionality for free. Again, this assumes that WisBar doesn't end up crashing - if it does, then yes, $10 would be worth it...except that, as you point out, there are other free options. So no, Jason isn't getting my $10.

Now, if PocketPlus offered multiple Word windows, I'd pay $50 without even blinking...

I turned off the Switcher, cause it did nothing for me....

I was using wisbar and never had any problems with it.
I recently tried icbar after reading about it in the forums here, and it is much better than wisbar, and still free.
do a search in the forums here for icbar for a download site and give it a try. Download the latest beta version.
icbar was created from the open source code of wisbar but adds a few more functions. It's very easy to configure, and I like it much better than wisbar.

Magic Button is the best task switcher available IMO and it's free too!

I've tried a ton myself... (Gigabar, PocketPlus, PowerNav, WisBar,...)

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I installed Magic Button and it appears to be exactly what I want: close button = exit program, without obscuring the icons in the title bar (the one thing I disliked about WisBar) and no unneeded extra features to take up memory.

This is why I love Pocket PC Thoughts!

In case you didn't know (it's not totally obvious), but Magic Button does have a secondary taskbar mode that's quite cool. Holding down the stylus on the upper right hand corner switches between 2 different modes. The default mode is the completely transparent mode where the only difference is that the X closes programs. In the 2nd mode, program icons of each program running in the background are displayed on the taskbar. It's great for one-tap application switching. It also replaces the time with a "home" button and an "options" button while not obscuring any other portion of the taskbar where PPC2k2 notifications happens. Holding down on any of the program icons on the taskbar also reveals a close option without having to be in the program. I minimized the "delay time" from 600ms to 250ms and now I flip between modes quite often with minimal effort.
